After Norton 360 indicated it had a problem, I picked Fix It (my only choice), and it redirected me to the Norton web site because it could not be fixed (what a surprise, not the 1st time this has happened to me; don't even know why they have a Fix It pick when it never can). At that point, I chatted on-line with the 1st of about a dozen technicians, and eventually about a dozen supervisors as the problem was slowly escalated up (or more like down) the tech support specialists (yea, right) chain of command. The 1st tech got no where trying to uninstall the existing version, the 2nd tech sped through my registry (regedit) with reckless abandon. I design computer control systems for a living and am very proficient on UNIX and Windows computer and he had me concerned with his sloppy methods. When it came time to reboot and the tech remotely relogs in, my laptop was totally unstable with the desktop bouncing between itself and a blank screen. It was then passed onto the next level of support. This was after about 4 hours on-line and endless attempts to stabilize the os. At about 2-3AM I asked to stop and resume the next day. This was after waiting 30-45 minutes for the next supervisor that would be "right with me"! The next day another 3-4 hours was wasted waiting for the next supervisor that would be "right with me" and their useless attempts to stabilize the os. In the end, their answer was that I needed to reload Windows. I insisted I could not afford to lose my files and all of my installed software packages (i.e.., Office 2013, ViseVersa, etc. and many others I don't even remember until I will need them). This is both my personal and business laptop and I am abosultely dependent upon it because I travel all of the time for my job. 2 weeks later I still have NOT recovered.
In the end I was forced, directed and picked by the last tech/supervisors (who was the worst to deal with not counting the 2nd tech that trashed my registry), to refresh my files. I lost most of my business and personal files, and all of my installed software packages.
And the last joker never even tried to remotely log in the last time. It was obvious all he wanted to do from the beginning was to wash his hands of the problem and dump it in my lap.
Since those frightful 2 days I have received calls from another 4-5 whomevers that promise to help but when I tell them my story (for the nth time) they tell me there is nothing they will do to restore any of the software packages; that's my problem!
Some of the many Case #s I was given are [Removed] I gave up writing them down because I was given a new one every time I talked to someone new; which like I said was about a dozen times.
THANKS NORTON!!!
