Norton Toolbar for Firefox 5

Firefox 5 was release yesterday, I installed it on my PC but wouldn't you know it the Norton Toolbar is no where to be found. Okay fair enough this is only the release candidate but even the the toolbar for the Norton Internet Security 2012 didn't work. So we have 4 days, can Norton make the toolbar compatible with Firefox 5 or are we going to have a repeat of Firefox 4?

I'm confused. Why does Norton only have four days to support a beta product?

I say start the countdown once the final product is released. How long did it take them last time? Two weeks? Lets see if they can improve on that.

Oh geez just be patient. Everytime this happens people whinge.

As I heard this time Mozilla did not changed so many things about the add-ons in version 5, so it must be a faster switch. Also Mozilla tested around 4000 plugins to be working fine in ver 5. I'm sure Symantec's plugins were included in this test as well, and we will see the results very soon. :)

Norton has 4 days because on 21st June the final release comes out

And intelligent computer users have much more time to decide how orgently they need  to install a new version with limited testing under its belt (All beta testing is limited compared with the world market of users and their different system configurations).

So far as I am concerned if you rush into installing something that is not as necessary as your security then that's your problem.

Reminds me of the saying about fools and angels and their different behaviors

HI all .Tonight  mozilla released a update to firefox 5 beta 7 updated to firefox 5 RC (Release Candidate) 1 step before final. To check to see if you have the update  click on tools>options>advanced>update>show update history todays date. The download  size is 13 mb in size. TO update  in firefox 5 go to help>about firefox>check for updates           ALF60

Actually Majorgeeks has a link posted to what they are calling the final right now. As last time, the option is the greater security of the updated browser or the convenience of a toolbar. Choice is yours. I will likely opt for the updated browser.

BetaNews also reports Firefox 5.0 is final. :smileywink:

Listen bud I was just saying that I hope they make a compatible toolbar in 4 days, right now they haven't failed because the 21st hasn't hit yet, I will just wait and see, I was just commenting on what i saw, so your talk about rushing to install something is irrevelent, I'm more concerned what happens on the 21st

Unless Norton goes all Back to the Future on us, I don't see how they can complete testing on a final version that won't even exist for another four days.  "Great Scott!!!"

The final version is out now.

Sorry, maybe I'm missing something but I can find no MajorGeeks download of the Firefox 5 RTM, nor do I see any mention of the browser, other than the RC on BetaNews.  The Firefox site itself is still offering 4.0.1.  Where are you seeing that Firefox 5 has gone RTM?

It can be done if made a priority

I actually have the final version now

Does that make you safe now?

1. Research indicates FF5 is not officially beyond Beta 7 or RC status, as of this posting.

2. For an eye-opener that will interest all, including all involved with Symantec/Norton, do an internet search on the words "Microsoft WebGL"...to read what Microsoft now thinks are security issues with WebGL graphics technology, and which some reports say has been supported by Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Hi 1mcrtd,

The Microsoft blog on WebGL stimulated a few news articles this week, even though the problem was actually posted last month by Context Information Security.  I certainly missed it at the time.  It is a very serious-sounding issue and I took the advice of US-CERT and many others and disabled WebGL in Firefox a couple of evenings ago.  For anyone interested, here are instructions on how to disable WebGL in Firefox and Chrome:

Firefox 5 is out now....
