Not really. because the Norton toolbar isn't working
With Firefox's new 6 week release schedule I expect Norton (and other vendors) to be compatible with version 5 about the time version 6 is released. And so on. I think Firefox has done a bad thing here.
It's not 6 weeks, that's Google, it's more like 3 months release schedule, I doubt it will take that long for Norton to make the Norton Toolbar compatible. It usually takes them about a week or two to get things sorted.
A week or two? Where did you get these numbers? With Firefox 4 this was rather months.
No, it was two weeks. Firefox 4 was released on March 22 and the Compatibility Hotfix was released two weeks later on April 6. A few weeks later Firefox 4.0.1 again broke the Toolbar when it was released on April 28. The Norton 18.6.0.29 patch, which fixed this problem was released as a controlled release on May 2. It just seemed like months. Probably felt like years if you worked for Symantec.
OK, so while Firefox 5 isn't officially released until tomorrow, it's available in release form at Tom's Hardware now - which implies Norton should have access to it now (if not earlier). Will NIS 2011 be ready for it tomorrow? If not, when?
Hi garlen,
In the past it has normally taken a couple of weeks, following the final release of a new version of Firefox, for the Norton Toolbar to be fully tested and made available. As you know, the Firefox release schedule is newly accelerated, and so changes to the browser from one release to the next may not be as significant as they were when going from 3.6 to 4 - so it is difficult to predict how much time will be necessary to complete a compatible toolbar this time. If you need the Norton feature, stay with FIrefox 4 until the new toolbar is announced.
We do not have any information about the plugin's release date yet. But we can assume that Symantec is ready (or almost done the testings), maybe they are just waiting Mozilla to release the final version officially.
We've been working hard to ensure that our products are compatible with Firefox 5. Once it is officially released and we've performed some testing on the final release, we'll be able to provide some more information on the compatibility of the Norton Toolbar with this new Firefox update.
For now, I recommend that you update to Firefox 4.0.1 to ensure you have the latest security updates for that browser. Thanks!
Warning: clicking on the below link will start the download of Firefox 4.0.1.

Mozilla Firefox Multiple Vulnerabilities 4.0.x ~ Unpatched
So when wiil the toolbar be updated?
Tony, I understand the desire for Norton to put out a problem-free update, but here's a quote from Maximum PC: "Mozilla plans on releasing a new iteration of Firefox every six weeks as part of its fast-track schedule, so we should be seeing Firefox 6
sometime around the beginning of August. Mozilla hopes that the rapid changes will let new features be added soon after they're completed, rather than forcing developers to wait several months for a new build.". Norton must find a way to move faster or it will become another of the companies on the junkpile of industry history. The companies that don't evolve to meet changing environments die off.

Hi Garlen, I agree. That's why were releasing a Norton Toolbar patch today that will address the compatibility issues seen with Firefox 5. This patch will be available in the next few hours through LiveUpdate.
This update will be available shortly to all languages of the product, and apply to NIS/NAV 18.6, N360 v5.1, and Comcast Norton Security Suite. In the meantime, if you are still running Firefox 3.6, I recommend that you upgrade to Firefox 5 or Firefox 4.0.1 before you receive the Norton patch.
The patch is now available through LiveUpdate. Please see Tim's announcement for details. Thanks for your patience.
OUTSTANDING! This is exactly what we Norton users need and expect. Congratulations to everyone who made this possible.
Just downloaded and started using Firefox 5--Norton Toolbar not compatible.
Sigh.
Just explain, is the patch the same for Firefox 4.01 and for Firefox 5.0? If we received our Norton Internet Security update today and we have Ffx 4.01, then do we still need another Norton patch if we upgrade Firefox from 4.01 to 5.0?
The patch that has come out today is a compatibility update for Firefox 5.0. The patches for Firefox 4.0 and 4.0.1 were both included in the NIS 18.6 update. If you have that version installed, then you also have the FF 4.0 and 4.0.1 patches installed. Did that answer your questions?
For the small percentage who may have wondered, I had FF 4.0.1 and NIS 18.6.0.29 when the patch for FF 5.0 arrived on my machine, win7 x64 home premium.
After the reboot, I installed FF 5.0 and the NIS toolbar and its two components were there in the browser.
