Norton toolbar(NIS 2010) cause IE8 (32bit)slowed down, then I have to disable it to get my normal speed for loading web page.
Any idea for this please?
Windows 7 Pro(En) X64 (7600)
IE 8 (32-bit)
NIS 2010 17.0.0.136

As soon as I saw that it caused IE to take several extra seconds just to open, I knew I’d be disabling it. I guess it makes sense that it slows down page loads as well.
NIS adds 3 addons to IE:
- Norton Toolbar
- Symantec NCO BHO
- Symantec Intrusion Prevention
Which one did you disable ?
Thanks for the info.
Shane.
Firefox is faster the IE. NIS 2010 is really cool. May computer seems faster now then before when I had McAfee.

When I went to disable the Norton toolbar from within IE, it popped up a notice very similar or identical to what you wrote, which was interesting because I didn't realize it was that thorough. I believe it was all or nothing. I think it disabled all three components.

And I forgot to say there is another problem.Evey time I close a tab(IE8) it would delay 2~3 seconds when norton toolbar is enabled.
Using IE8's 'Reset Internet Explorer settings' option will fix the slow tab closing issue when the Norton 2010 toolbar is enabled. Please ensure that you read the 'How does resetting affect my computer' link that you will be presented with before proceeding so that you fully understand the implications of performing the reset.
I am happy to hear that in your case it just slows down the web browsing, in mine it completely stops web pages from loading. Disabling the safe web helped mitigate the problem for a while but it came back again. The only way I could get back my internet speed was by unisntalling the entire NIS 2010 suite. Still looking for a solution.

It also happend to mine, it completely stopped web pages from loading(keep about 10~20min), but you know what at that moment I could download files with third party software from internet. so it looks like the port 80 was block.
port 80 is blocked, hmm … but wouldn’t that mean that all the webpages will not load?
Nevertheless, I would like to give it a shot. I jumped gun and paid for this security suite and now I am not using it due to this problem. Can you tell me what you did to unblock the port 80 so the webpages would load?

First,I am not 100% sure (just guess) it blocked Port 80 at that time. What I did just wait for 20~30min(only keep blocked for this time period) without restart my PC.

I just noticed this post. Is anyone who is having problems with IE using Ad Muncher?
I notice the same symptoms as in the thread you pointed out, "SendOfJive". I started another thread to request folks input and it can be found here. I have not made much progress and currently I have the NIS 2010 uninstalled.
I do not have admuncher or similar software. I think it is a firewall issue since ALL installed browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari, Chrome) do not load the specific forum and in general slows the browsing of many websites.
Please,I’m still waitting for the solution.

I'd say that few forum users are going to currently have access to your OS: Windows 7 Pro(En) X64 (7600)
Regardless, is there a 64bit version of IE8 on your system that supports the Norton toolbar? If so, did you reset this browser as well?

Her laptop:
Win Vista Home P
IE 8 (32-bit)
NIS 2010

Hi HenryK2008,
Once you have IE open and it is in a state where it is not connecting to the internet, can you open task manager and right click on all iexplore.exe and ieuser.exe processes and select "Create Dump File".
Once you have done so, please let us know. We will send you a private message with instructions on how to upload the dump file for us to look at. We will need to analyze the dump file to make progress.
I am also running Windows 7 x64 RTM and had to disable the Norton 2010 toolbar (plus the other 2 Norton addins) in IE8.
The slow tab close is very annoying and I find it hard to believe was not noticed by the developers. I would prefer to remove all Norton integration with my browser and let Microsoft do the same job much faster. However, if you disable "Safe Surfing" Norton complains it is insecure so you are stuck with disabling the browser addins manually
