Sorry for the previous empty post.

Hi SlamDunkley,

Could you clarify if you updated from FF4.0.0 to 4.0.1., and had you installed the Hotfix successfully previously?  In other words, did FF4.0.1 break the Hotfix?

Yes 4.0.1 broke the hotfix, I did upgrade from 4.0

I already used that hotfix when I installed 4.0, it got broke in 4.0.1

Thanks, SlamDunkley.  I have passed the information along.

I have the same problem… just upgraded from 4.0 to 4.01 and now the Norton Toolbar no longer works. And yes I earlier applied the patch for 4.0. Can we get this fixed please, the toolbar shouldn’t break for a minor FF security and stability fix. Thanks.

Im in the same mess, after the time it took to get the fix working with 4 I am giving up! There is said to be a version 5 of FF on its way, will Norton have even sorted out to wirk with 4 by it being published!

TO EVERYONE if you update to firefox 4.0.1 it will  break the hotfix for the toolbar in fire fox 4.  NOTE! You can update firefox 3.6.1.6 to firefox 3.6.17 and the norton toolbar still works.

Same here. Installed the Firefox 4.0.1 update and Norton Toolbar doesn't work anymore. This is really getting old.

Is there a way to prevent Firefox 4 from auto updating to Firefox 4.0.1   ????

UPDATED:

NVM.   You can do this under Options -> Advanced Menu --> Updates

Actually, the toolbar works fine in Firefox 4.0.1, but it just doesn't know it! Here is the fix. 1) Disable Norton Tamper Protection. 2) Find the file install.rdf dated 4/6/2011 hidden in a subdirectory of a Norton data folder. Open install.rdf in Notepad. Change the maxversion setting from 4.0 to 4.0.1. Save the file. 3) Reenable Norton Tamper Protection. 4) Open Firefox and install the update.

Thanks everyone for letting us know about this issue. We're working on it, and I'll post an update when I get more information. For now, if you want to continue using the Norton Toolbar with Firefox, I recommend that you hold off on upgrading to 4.0.1.

Additionally, I DO NOT recommend editing, modifying, or removing any Norton product files. This is extremely risky, and has the potential to compromise your system security.

Don't worry guys, I will not mess with anthing, I am always patient when it comes to Norton Internet Security, put I couldn't hold off on the 4.0.1 because I find updating my browser as soon a possible is good practice, it comes with security and stabilty updates so I just had to update it. If it means waiting for a Norton Toolbar then so be it.

Thanks for your help guys

The Firefox 4.01 update fixes critical security issues. If a toolbar is more important then by all means wait but for me and the machines I am responsible for, I am choosing to update Firefox. The toolbar cam wait.

Drminer's suggestion worked for me. It's a bit difficult to find the file you pointed out in your post, but with some persistence I found it and it worked for me. After finding it I created a copy of it so I can easily edit it should Firefox be updated again then just replace the source file after upping the version number. Nice to learn something new as far as I'm concerened!
