[Updated Feb 03 2014: Google Chrome 32 compatibility patch for Norton 2012 products]

Hi Everyone,

We have released a Google Chrome 32 compatibility patch for Norton Internet Security 21.1.0.18, Norton 360 21.1.0.18, Comcast Norton Security Suite 21.1.0.18, Norton 2013 (20.4.0.40), Norton 2012 (19.9.1.14 & 6.4.1.14and Norton Identity Safe Standalone which is available via LiveUpdate.

This patch will only update the toolbar in Google Chrome. The toolbar in Firefox and Internet Explorer will remain at 2014.6.2.3. Also, the patch is available for the Norton 21.1.0.18, Norton 20.4.0.40, Norton Internet Security 19.9.1.14, Norton 360 6.4.1.14 and Norton Identity Safe Standalone, and we are working on compatibility for other versions. Please Subscribe to this blog post for updated information on older versions.

The versions for this compatibility update are as follows:

Norton Internet Security, Norton 360 & Comcast Norton Security Suite v 21.1.0.18

Norton Toolbar2014.6.4.11

Note: For the 21.x update, this patch does not require reboot on Win7 & Win 8 machines.

Norton Identity Safe Standalone

Norton Toolbar: 2014.6.4.11

Note: For Identity Safe Standalone, this patch requires a machine reboot.

Norton Internet Security & Norton 360 v 20.4.0.40

Norton Toolbar2013.4.7.3

Note: For the 20.x update, this patch does not require reboot on Win7, Win 8 & Win 8.1 machines.

Norton Internet Security 19.9.1.14 & Norton 360 6.4.1.14

Norton Toolbar: 2012.5.22.3

This patch resolves a few compatibility issues:

- "Hide Toolbar for this page" option added specifically for Google Chrome toolbars

- "Hide Toolbar for this page" button allows customer to choose to show the toolbar by clicking on the Norton extension button at the top right of browser

- "Hide Toolbar for this page" button next to the close button now hides the toolbar for that specific browser tab

We recommend that you have the latest version of Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 installed.  If you are not seeing the Norton Toolbar in Chrome 32, check and make sure you're running NIS, N360 or NSS 21.1.0.18. Please visit our Norton Update Center to receive the latest update.

If you are running Google Chrome 32 and Norton Internet Security, Norton 360 21.1.0.18 or NSS 21.1.0.18and still do not see the Norton Toolbar, please ensure the Norton Toolbar plugin is enabled. You can do this by clicking on the Google Chrome Settings, click on Extensions, and then clicking Enable next to Norton Toolbar.

As suggested I update Norton Internet Security to v 21.1.0.18.  I ran live update, installed the patch.  But Norton tool bar is still not present in Google Chrome. The extension for Norton Identity Protection is 2014.6.2.3.  I understand that is not the version the patch is made for. However that is the ext which appears after a reinstall of Google Chrome.  Is there a way to update this ext.

In fact the identity safe will function in Chrome if I log on identity safe in I.E. first but the toolbar will not appear.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi chrisf424 and welcome!

Please see here what @Edjr60 had to do to bring the toolbar back.

I had to do the same, but in my case the issue isn't fully fixed yet. Sometimes  the toolbar appears while the website page is loading and disappears as soon as the page is fully loaded!  So far I’ve seen this happening only with the Norton forum pages - not always, just occasionally - but since I uninstalled and reinstalled only earlier today, I’ll see how it works visiting more websites in the next days.

On the other hand the path which was released was for solving some of the problems, not all of them, therefore a new one will have to follow when ready and hopefully will fix the above.

Therefore, I’d suggest that you do the same – follow the steps mentioned in Edjr60’s post and hopefully you also will get the toolbar back.
