Norton Unistalled itself and now my CD reader is corrupt

I now cannot use my CD/DVD drive or activate my new Norton disc because Norton 360 5.0 uninstalled itself and left my computer with a corrupt CD/DVD reader.

I put the "new" Norton 360 5.0 CD into my drive (Even though my older 360 4.0 was made on the exact same date [Feb 17 2010]), I chose to retain my files and settings when unistalling because I was under the impression that this was apart of the normal procedure and it was going to upload 5.0 when my computer restarted.

My computer started when the uninstallation completed and left my computer with a corrupt CD/DVD reader so I CANNOT upload the new one or use it at all.

Hi, Eheim,

Welcome to our community!

This is a known Microsoft issue; they have a fix posted on their website. Fortunately, you can also install Norton 360 v.5 by downloading it--either from your Norton Account (which will activate it automatically to your current subscription) or from the appropriate link below and activating it with the Product Key from the package yooour new CD came in--and since Norton installs a protected CD driver as part of its installation, you will also regain access to your CD/DVD drive when this happens:

Let us know how this works for you; we're here to help until your problem is solved!

Hi Eheim,

This is not an uncommon issue when uninstalling Norton 360.  Please see the following KB article which directs you to a Microsoft Fix-it tool:

Cannot access CD/DVD after I install or uninstall Norton 360

Hi,

Please click here to goto the Microsoft Fix page and run the Tool to fix the Problem.

Hi there Subash, JUST curious, are you an ACTUAL Symantec/Norton emploee, or an Iyogi employee?

Hi, MikeHolli,

Like I said on your other thread, Norton doesn't actually outsource any of its Tech Support; whoever "Iyogi" was was playing you for a fool; fortunately, you picked up on  it, hopefully before giving them access to your machine or you may now have any manner of backdoors or keyloggers on your system. [Edit: I hope not, because our malware removal ace, who's a mentor to the top malware killers on the other recommended forums too, is one of those non-Americans you think so little of!]

While here on these forums, any user whose "forum rank" (the line immediately below their username) is "Symantec Employee" is actually a paid employee of Symantec.

And Subash is one of the forums' bright stars I was mentioning on the other thread, where you were running down people from other countries :smileywink:

Just one more identifying bit of info on Symantec employees - their user name is in RED.

Hi,

Thank you very much Jim (DistEd).

Hi Mike, while cantacting Norton through chat or phone or email please ask any information you had given in your Norton Account records and if the technician provides you the right info, voila then you landed to the right place to solve your norton problem. Other people like Iyogi don't have access to any of your account records.

Regards,

Subash
