The scan "buttons" do not respond frequently. At least once a week. I can fix the problem by uninstalling the program through the control panel and reinstall by using Norton Downloader. This is beginning to be quite a pain. This happens only on computer #2, a HP laptop, w/Windows 8.1. I have no problem with computer #1, a HP desktop that still uses Windows 7.
Are you are using Norton Security Suite, that is provided by your ISP.
You can use the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool to refresh your installation of your NSS. As long as you are using the latest version of NSS, this tool should support this action.
From the NRNR page
The Norton Remove & Reinstall tool does support the following Norton Online products. However, note that you cannot run the tool in Windows safe mode with these products.
Norton AntiVirus 2012 Online from Deutsche Telekom
Norton Internet Security 2012 Online from Deutsche Telekom
Norton Security Suite Version 6.0 and above from Comcast
Download the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from here www.norton.com/nrnr
If you use Identity Safe, backup/export your data. Use the CSV format for compatibility.
Run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Reboot.
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Try to log into your Identity Safe. If you can, you are done. If not, Import your Identity Safe data.

I woke today and realized I didn't see the Norton Icon. Going to my programs I found Norton and selected "Security Suite", but nothing happened. I ran the deep scan remover thing...and it removed some harmless shortcuts....I rebooted....and still no response from my Norton Icons. IT said I had a conflict with an application, but didn't tell me which one, so O removed malewarebytes...still no response from my Norton Icons...and it says I have no products to upgrade. WTH?
