Norton Update Agent Process in Task manager appearing today

hi there. recently, I have notice in my Task Manager in my Windows Vista Home Premium laptop (that has Norton Internet Security) that it had a new process running.

It is called  NUA.exe  and claims to be from "Norton Update Agent". I am a little consern about this as it is the first day I see this running in the background and want to know if it is safe.

 I runs with a memory of 2,020 K

please reply.

Thanks. :)

EDIT:  by seeing the"View History" of Norton, I see that it already allowed internet access to it and it is located in the [Disk name]:\Program Data\Norton\NUA.exe

I still want a responce even though it looks like a new thing Norton now got.

thanks for the quick reply. yeah, I have the 2007 version (the time I first got my laptop). I don't plan to change to 2008 though since I don't have much money right now. I did plan to buying the 2009 version.

btw, if I ever need to buy the 2010 version and have the money, I will need to buy one with for 4 users since I have 4 computers in my house.

again, thanks for the quick responce.

Hi vilapupu,

That is the point of this campaign. We want to let users (such as yourself) know that you an update to 2010 FREE OF CHARGE and use it for the remainder of your 2007 subscription! It won't extend your subscription, but it will enhance your protection quality. :smileyhappy:

Tim is this also starting to show up for us users of NAV 2008?

I posted something this morning, looks like it may be related to this:

I noticed this item in the following path

C:\ProgramData\Norton

there is an item NUA

and then a folder that starts {086A63.....}

the NUA.exe is digitally signed by symantec

Both appear to be added on 12/14/09 when I ran an update

Never had a folder "Norton" in program data before (Symantec folder yes, but not one labled Norton)

also, when I accidentally clicked on the NUA.exe item, it created a document (telementry?) that appeared in the

C:\PrograData\Norton

I deleted that document, will that be a problem that I deleted the created document ? Let me be clear, the document was not there prior to my clicking the item NUA.exe. So I'm assuming the document was not part of the original set of items.

So is it ok I deleted this document?

Also should it be showing up under C:\ProgramData\  and in a ne folder labled Norton?

Yes, 2008 product users are receiving this now as well.

Cool ThanksReese

Would it be showing up under C:\ProgramData\  and in a new folder labled Norton as well?

( so I guess there are still enough of us NAV2008 users still out there and appearantly 2007 as well)

I'm sorry, but I don't know the specifics of the update program so I can't confirm that but since the files within those folders are signed by Symantec then that probably is the correct spot.
