The latest update totally borked my PC---
Everything was fine till I read about the FF 32 Update. I tried to access it by downloading the Norton Latest Version Checker via NIS. During or after the download, my file explorer and then subsequently my entire PC froze. It would thereafter no longer boot into a fully functional state. What had happened after trying to update my NIS is that my desktop and file explorer do not function unless I first use a popular multi-use utility to fix those problems and I need to do it every time I start Windows.
I am not even using FF 32, only 31. I have my FF set to not apouto update.
Not sure but it is possible the patch had already been installed when I went to check I had the latest.
It has taken me nearly 3 hours to get my PC back to the point where I am able to make this post. Still not totally fixed.
I had to uninstall NIS 2014 and use various other fixes to get my PC back to the point I am able to write this post.
I have had to resort to another IS Suite that I prefer less than NIS
I will continue to try to get my PC back to the state it was in before I tried to update NIS. I will also use this time to make certain I have transferred to my external HD everything that is not yet on it -- I only connect it when I am not online because or CryptoWall paranoia and thus do not back up daily. I am nearly certain I am going to have at some point to do a reinstal or refresh of Windows 8.1 to restore it to the state it was in this morning before the latest Patch
What the heck happened?
I am using Windows 8.1 and my PC was running fast and flawlessly with NIS 2014 installed until this AM when I tried to make sure my NIS had the latest patch via downloading the Norton System Checker.
I have nearly a full year to go on my latest NIS 2014 subscription, but will not even think of reinstalling it until I get an explanation and am satisfied it is safe to re-install.
The IS Suite I am using at the moment is an excellent one, also a PC Mag Ed Choice, except for the fact in the past it would not allow me to access my favorite online game without out making numerous exceptions to its firewall.
Oh, and of course System Restore failed me because the only points remaining were auto made points made while NIS Self Protect was turned on.
Not a happy NIS camper ATM
