Norton update wont stick - keeps updating

Im having issues with Norton Security updating. I use it on Windows Pro x64 1903.

I updated Norton last night and found out that it was very out-dated and the updates dont stick, I keep updating and different amounts download and keep restarting and it still needs to update, whenever I try to sign in on the program it says "an unexpected browser error occurred" - I haver used Norton Removal & Reinstall Tool and no joy. I do not have fast startup enabled. I used REVO UNINSTALLER to remove all the left overs, then ran NR&R again. then downloaded the installer from my account via the web browser, same again...keeps updating and wont sign in (although it reports 169 days left).

Ive also tried setting the main EXE as 'run as administrator' and that doees nothing.

Ivetried disabling Windows Defender and that don't work either

Im out of options and getting sick of restarting my PC and the request of Norton after each update attempt. Having done some research online it would appear this is common.

Now the installer can't connect and says error and cant deliver the error report either

I dont have any other security or program running

You're welcome. Have an awesome weekend, glad things are worked out for you.

Cheers

well, i assumed it was very outdated because of all the updates it was installing with the GUI changing slightly upon each update, i updated it about 12 times, installed about 6 times...it would say current updates but yet it would still download updates, i could have gone on forever, update, install patch (sometimes), reboot requires (sometimes) and upon reboot 'check for updates' and it installs them again...round and round i went.

I seem to have sorted it by R&R on my other windows account (I have 2 accounts) .

thanks for the response, really appreciate it

What do you mean by it was very out-dated?

How many LiveUpdate and restarts have you done? If you just ran LiveUpdate last night, you may have gotten the update to ver 22.19.x.x. After restart from an update like this, there is still often updates available when you run LiveUpdate again. It does not mean the updates are not sticking.

Did you check the Norton History to see what is getting updated?

While I was waiting for a reply I signed into my other user account (both Admin accounts) and went through the NR&R on that and i got to the point where it was checking with norton and before it could finish I updated, rebooted and now its fine...

I must have installed it in the other account and trying to uninstall then reinstall from the 2nd account is whats caused the issues

As for REVO I tried that AFTER I tried everything else and it found hundreds of files and reg entries left behind by the Norton Uninstaller... I also said that I dont have any other security apps installed...

....so I may have fixed it but it does not detract from the fact there is a problem with it leaving behind files when uninstalling and not being able to reinstall from a second windows account.

thanks for the quick response

Hello snadge. Run the Norton R&R tool and perform a "remove only" scenario. Reboot. DO NOT run REVO as it isn't the correct way to remove Norton. When you have rebooted open an elevated RUN (run as administrator), insert this command: sfc/ scannow press enter. Allow it to check your windows install for any system file issues. When done reboot.

Also, if you have other A/V software installed, trial version, etc. remove them and reboot. Then log into your Norton account from your browser of choice. Download and reinstall your Norton product from there. Make sure you manually run live updates until no more are offered and reboot again. Once booted manually run live updates a second time, continue until no more are offered.

Cheers
