Norton Util, Surface Scan, always hangs at 10%

I have scheduled a surface scan to be executed upon reboot and it does start executing but always hangs for an indefinite amount of time at 10%. I have to hard shut down my computer, which in turn causes corruption that is found by WINDOWS 10 and corrected. I had stopped doing this surface scan over a year ago but decided to try it again with the same results. Was hoping that you would have fixed the problem. I have recommended Norton Utilities to friends but feel guilty with it having this flaw. Other than this flaw, it works great on Windows 10, now.
