I should have known better--in times past when I've used Norton's registery cleaner the same thing happens: Nearly all of my applications stop working and cannot even be re-installed. At the moment the list of applications that stopped working after Norton Utilities "fixed" things:
- Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008
- Adobe Photoshop Elements
- Microsoft Encarta
- Sony Cinescore Studio
- Others?
Many applications do continue to run, but so far Streets & Trips, despite my trying all five steps recommend by Microsoft (shutting nearly everything down and reinstalling several times) refuses to work under my log-in. Oddly it DOES work with a different account on the same computer.
Back everything up BEFORE running the Registery Cleaner. Think twice before using Norton Utilities at all. In the 1990s the Utilities was an amazing collection of very useful utilities--now it's main function, after paying $50, is to point you towards Windows applications you could start yourself anyway. That and rendering your applications useless.
