Norton Utilities 16 messed up win7

Installed NU 16 and cant start windows my wireless adapter hangs, gadgets wont load and office outlook wont start. Had to go to previous system restore to get my system operational again.

Hello Phantomfuxxie,

Could you please let me know if you performed any scans after installing NU16 and what type of scans were they?

Regards,

Skreddy

after I updated to NU16 I did the health scans in order. After the first reboot I had no wireless connection.  I tried to do a last known good reboot .. still not any good.

I finally had to log into safe mode, do a restore point from "before" the NU16 upgrade and then go find NU15 and reinstall/update that to get my NU back.

You are not alone.  I am running Vista and when I defrag it hangs the computer about 75% through the scan.  Tried repairing disks first and there are no errors.  Then defrag hangs again.

I have turned the scheduler off a couple of times and it turns itself back on.

My system hangs now when the screen saver comes on.  I had to disable the screen saver.

Every day since I loaded it I have tried an update and it says that it has the updated version.

Overall I am now trying to remove this buggy software from my system.

I had to completely remove 16 including cleaning the registry then reinstall 15 v1 so that it would update back to what I had .. so until this is fixed I can't use my license for 16.

Sorry this is not directly related to the previous post , but I cant seem to find a way to start a new topic on this forum . --I've installed norton utilities v 16 and noticed that it wipes out all of my stored passwords and saved web history . I've tried to disable this since I am the only one who logs onto my computer with a password , and prefer to have all of my passwords remembered by windows rather than written on post it notes around my monitor . I've turned off the green switches in the privacy section and Norton still wipes out my passwords . Other than un-installing Norton Utilities 16 is there a way that I can get Norton to leave my passwords alone ?

phantom Fuzzie,

have you contacted support regarding this issue? if not I can try my best to help you with this issue.

Firstly I need specifically know what scans you have ran. Most likely it may be due to the registry scan. Below are a couple of troubleshooting steps that could help you. NU 16 backs up the registry every time you perform a registry scan so if there were any conflicts caused by the registry you should easily be able to restore it with just a few clicks.

I first need to determine if Norton Utilitiesis the source of this issue. To allow me to troubleshoot this issue, please follow the steps shown below.

Step 1: Reverse Norton Utilities registry changes:
____________________________________________

1. Open Norton Utilities
2. Select "Recovery"
3. Select "Restore Registry Backups"
4. Check (select) all of the check boxes shown under "Restore Registry Backups"
5. Select "Restore"
6. Once all of the items are restored, please restart your computer

Once steps 1 - 6 have been performed, please check to see if the affection application(s) begin to work correctly again. If the application(s) DO NOT begin to work again, than this indicates that Norton Utilities is not the cause of this issue.

If the affected applications do begin to work again, please proceed to "Step 2" shown below.

Step 2: Send Norton Utilities "scan.log":
_____________________________________

1. Start Norton Utilities
2. Select "Performance"
3. Select "Clean Your Registry"
4. Select "Complete Registry Scan"
5. Select "Start Scan"
6. At the completion of the scan, DO NOT select "Repair"
7. Select "Settings"
8. Select "Registry"
9. Select "View Log Files"
10. Attach the "Scan.log" text file from the “Log” folder to your reply to this Forum post.

Let me know if you need help with this.

Skreddy.

Hello mikewindsor,

"'ve tried to disable this" Could you please be more specific about how you tried to disable this? This will depend on what browser you are using.

You will need to check in NU by going to the Privacy tab > Clean Browser History > Select your browser on the left pane then untick 'password' if it is selected to be cleared or just untick the browser you do not wish to be cleaned > Click save

that should fix it up.

I just installed 16 and ran a "quick cleanup" and now Norton Security 2013 says the Firewall is off and it cannot fix it!  Also, Norton Ghost 15 will not connect - it gives an "Access Denied" message ..  How can it trash so much so soon!!!!!  What can be done?
