Norton Utilities and Norton Removal Tool

Hi this is my 1st time using this forum! Does Norton Utilities erases all traces of it's files/registries/folders even after doing uninstallation via add/remove and running Norton Removal Tool.

The reason of this is because even after i did uninstallation via add/remove and ran the Norton Removal Tool.. After doing search from my laptop I can still see traces of norton files and registries on my laptop? So does norton utilities remove them. Thanks.

[edit: Clarified subject.]

Hi,

did you have an other Norton Product as well?

And can you please give us an example what files / settings have not been removed from your PC?

Thanks!

I forgot to mention! I am now using MSE! This occured a long time ago, when i had Norton 360 V4, i think... before installing Norton 360, i did uninstall via add/remove and ran Norton Removal Tool and i installed Norton 360... After Norton 360 expired i used McAfee and now using MSE.

When i double click on My Computer and at the top right hand corner "Search". I type Norton. It comes up as 52 iteams. There are 3 folders named as Norton. All these 3 folders contain text doucment, LOC file, and SCA file. The rest are JScript Script file, cascading style sheet document,  and one of them is windows command script.

Also Under "Search" via my computer i type symantec, it comes up as 30 results (most of them are located under HP folder, but some are located under C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Setup, C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\NCO, C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\NAV, and the other 2 are gadget located C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Support64\uiNPC\uiNPC64.

Before even getting McAfee, i went on to delete all these 52 items under norton and all 30 items under symantec! Some didn't get deleted. After that next thing i know is that my computer is having serious problems... So i had to system restore! All of these files and folders are still in my laptop, so am wondering that if Norton Utilities can remove all of them competely. Thanks.

I assume than you had a HP PC, which had a Norton product on it preinstalled, right? These are also HP folders. HP stores the (pre)installed softwares' setup files in the C:\SWSetup\ folder. Eg. you will be able to find here the complete setup media for the Office 200x 60-days trial, or the MS Works setup files as well.

Can you please let us know the exact folder names, where these are stored?

Yeah am still using HP laptop. When typing symantec. There's 28 folders that are named as symantec and all of them are in C:\HP\HPQWare\WC. Out of 28 folders only 2 folder also name is symantec C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Setup and other one is C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\NAV. Also there's 2 PNG file it's name is symantec, 1 PNG file is located C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Support64\uiNPC\uiNPC64 and the other PNG file is located C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Support\uiNPC\uiNPC.

1 windows command script name is Norton located at C:\System.sav\Util

2 cascading style sheet document name is norton: 1st is in C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Support64\uiNPC\uiNPC64 and 2nd is in

C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Support\uiNPC\uiNPC.

The other 40 files are also cascading style sheet document name is norton are located C:\SWSetup\Inetsec\Support\uiNPC\uiNPC\Gadget.

Can Norton Utilities remove all of these stuffs?

No, Norton Utilitites will not remove these.

These are all setup files for you to reinstall the product, and all of these were put there by HP. If you don't need them, as these are a really old product's setup files too, you can remove them manuall if you wish. This whole folder you can remove: C:\SWSetup\Inetsec, but about C:\HP\HPQWare\WC I cannot tell you anything without seeing it...

If i remove this folder C:\SWSetup\Inetsec. Will my laptop face problems again and have to system restore, just as i mentioned it before in this post?

As these are only setup files you will see no errors. (I removed the whole SWSetup folder from my HP machine, as I do not need it, and it's just eating the place....)
