Norton Utilities - Out of support in 2 months without warning

A couple of months ago I was prompted by Norton to install their Norton Utilities.  It was explained to me that this was a bonus to my existing subscription.

I installed the utilities, including the Shredder function.

There was an annoying feature in the Shredder (I couldn't remove the icon from my desktop) and so I engaged the Norton Help Desk.

It took 25 mintutes on chat (I was handed over between core and utilities group) to be told that the Shredder was no longer supported.

Ahhh....

Why get me to install it then if you were going to remove it from support?

I have escalated this thread to see if we can get any confirmation or denial of the information you were given.

It sounds a little odd that they would be deleting this feature when they just created an update to fix it.
