So, Norton email me and tell me about the great new utilities premium. I download and install it. Of course the feature to bleach free disk space has gone. Honestly what is is it there days that new versions of software have less features than the old versions?
JML. The Norton team would have to answer that question as I am not an employee therefore not privy to that information. I would think that as Windows and other OS's have evolved, a lighter software suite was in order. Also, coupled with Windows as an example, Windows 10 does most of its own maintenance internally. Having outdated features that COULD cause conflicts would lead to larger accountability should things go south while using the product with its older features intact.
An older thread discusses issues with bleaching as far back as the Windows XP days. Since bleaching scrambles your MFT (master file tables) using that feature on a modern OS most certainly would lead to data loss up to reinstallation of the OS at some point. My view is, there is a good reasoning for removal of that feature. Lets hear from the Norton team.
Hello JML. This article my help. Conversely. I believe Norton Utilities 16 was the last version to have the bleach feature. The current features of NUP are listed here.
