I recently installed Norton Utilities 14 on my desktop (XP Home Edition). I performed all the scans and backups the software would offer. Somehow, my registry was corrupted. When I started my computer up, I would get to the Windows XP screen and it would immeaditly dim and restart. No matter what I did, the computer just "looped."
I tried to perform the "2nd" repair that is supposd to be available on my XP Home edition disk. The second repair option was not present as explained when I Googled the issue.
I made a trip down to my local computer store and was advised to "just re-install" XP Home over the top of my current install. I explained that I had expensive software that coud not be reloaded again without re-purchasing it. I was assured everything would be OK.
I re-installed XP Home edition again and was able to find all of my files except My Documents. The programs I had installed are present in the Program file.
When I tried to start any of the software programs, they will not start probably due to the fact that the registry was wiped out during my reinstall.
I still have my backup files from my original Norton Utilities software install.
Question: Is there a way at this point to restore my software applications (without reinstalling) using the Norton Utlities back files?
