I own Norton Utilities 2008 version (CD has a date 12/08 and a code beside it of 20001454) which I use on my Toshiba Satellite (2008 model) with 64 bit Vista.
I have two repeated problems.
1) The disk defragmentation process does not seem to work. In the past I have run it a couple of times overnight, and cancelled it when it was still running the next morning. This week, I ran it for 36 hours, and my computer seemed to be active (based on my CPU activity screen and RAM usage) but the defrag never terminated until I finally closed it after 36 hours. It seems to be in a loop rather than actually defragging. And the “scheduled defrag” option has never worked – although I have checked the option to defrag once a week, it has never done so.
2) When I do the various cleanup chores – removing temp files, removing blank folders, defragmenting the registry values etc etc – at some point I lose all the saved signon values for websites and have to re-enter them. There is no information from the software that I am about to do that, which I obviously do not want to do. Which cleanup option is causing this, so I can avoid doing it in future. Or is there some other way to protect the saved values? It would seem to be that the software should warn the user that doing such and such a cleanup will also clear out your saved signon codes.
