Norton Utillities 16 core change

Norton today told me that a core change has caused the need to repair Norton Utilities 16 using smart update or by reinstalling the utilities software. Smart update needs re-updating after every computer logon. The downloaded version I have has been updated and the old version will not reinstall. How do I fix this problem?

Just to clarify, did you see the exact dialog box as follows?

If so, plz read on:

Have you restarted your computer when the update is complete? BTW, which operating system are U running? Windows 8+? If so, plz disable fast startup.

If your issue continues, try the below workaround: you just need to hit the OK Button and continue to use your Norton Utilities; your app will then launch once the said alert is ignored.

And, plz re-run Smart Update as the admin user - this can ensure you get the most recent updates (16.0.1.7, personally) from Norton server. Restart your system when ready.

If the above options does not work, uninstall your current NU and reinstall it later:

  • Head to Control Panel > check the programs list for the target app > follow the on-screen wizards to complete the uninstallation.
  • Reboot when ready
  • Run Norton Removal Tool
  • Enter your Norton account and re-download NU. For related info, plz read this KB. You may also run the install disc if you have.
