Every time I start up my machine. Norton 360 detects a new network and asks me to turn on my VPN.
Also, Microsoft/Windows recommends that my home network be public. Norton recommends Private.
Who is right?

take nortons private private is best
i think if the connection is like a public wifi or if your home network isnt secure than the vpn message pops up, i see it a safety measure
as for public or private profiles i would choose the private
just remember there are som workaround like in Denmark all of the router from yousee got double protection in them so you are getting it twice som company do it so there system auto protect you
All: The issue is simple, sloppy coding software. Norton doesn’t “remember” the last network used, nor the defaults set in Windows for the type of network when you have chosen it as the default. Microsoft has said they are un-hooking A/V software creators from the Windows kernel core so that MAY be a part of the issue. Either way, its an issue on the part of Norton having not been corrected in house.

The Microsoft advice is obvious, as it hides you. However, the distinction between public and private still gives the game away.
