Hello @Sunny_DVD
This discrepancy is directly caused by the fact that your India VPN connection uses a virtual IP location rather than a physical server inside India.
Because of local cybersecurity laws, Norton completely removed its physical infrastructure from India and strictly prohibits the use or selection of Indian servers. Any service still claiming to offer an India connection usually routes your data through a virtual server located elsewhere (commonly Singapore or the UK).
While Norton originally removed India completely in 2022 to comply with data-logging laws, they have since followed other major VPN brands by adopting a virtual server framework. This is why you see India listed in your application, and it circles back entirely to your original question about the incorrect map.
The Technical Chain: What is Actually Happening
When you click “India” in your Norton VPN app, your data follows this path:
- The Selection: You choose India in the app menu.
- The Real Route: Norton routes your internet traffic to a physical server located in a nearby data privacy-friendly country (most commonly Singapore or the UK).
- The Virtual Mask: That external server assigns you an IP address that is officially registered to look like it belongs in India.
Why the Map Still Looks Wrong
The visual map in your app is experiencing a common “virtual routing disconnect”:
- Physical Location Preference: The map interface inside the software is likely reading the actual physical location of the server hardware (e.g., pointing you at Singapore) instead of the spoofed location.
- Database Overlap: Geolocation mapping databases track both where an IP is registered (India) and where the server cluster physically sits. The visual map graphic inside Norton is simply defaulting to the server’s physical home.

While the document states that Norton VPN completely dropped India server access, Norton has since quietly rolled out virtual location routing. They brought back an “India” server option using a virtual data infrastructure but haven’t completely updated their historical support documentation to match.

Norton does not have to log your data because its virtual servers are physically located outside of India.
The key to understanding this is jurisdiction. Cybersecurity laws only apply to companies operating physical equipment within a country’s borders. Because Norton routes its virtual Indian connection through physical hardware in a privacy-friendly country (like Singapore), it completely bypasses India’s legal authority.

While Norton did completely pull its physical infrastructure out of India due to the 2022 CERT-In data logging directives, they subsequently introduced virtual locations for India (specifically routed through New Delhi).
This means that while the actual computer servers are physically housed in a compliant, privacy-friendly country outside of India, Norton assigns you an Indian Virtual IP address. This gives you full access to Indian geo-restricted streaming content (like ZEE5) without your personal logs ever touching Indian soil or being subject to local data-retention laws.
Key Details About Norton’s India Virtual Location
- The Location: Your app lists India (New Delhi) as a selectable region.
- The Reality: The actual hardware handling your traffic is located in a nearby data center (such as Singapore).
- The Data Safety: Because the data processing occurs outside Indian jurisdiction, Norton’s strict no-logs policy remains 100% intact and unaffected by domestic regulations.
A Crucial Usage Restriction
While anyone outside India can use this virtual location to spoof an Indian IP, the Norton VPN feature itself remains completely blocked and inaccessible if you are physically located within India’s borders. If you open the app inside India, you will see a “VPN is unavailable in this territory” restriction message.

My bad, I should have explained what I mean by wrong map. I mean the Kashmir region is shown incorrectly. I am not referring to the actual location of the user or the technicalities of the matter.
The highlighted region shown incorrectly, missing territory is currently occupied by other countries, but that is an Indian territory.
May be best – to document/report “issue” directly via Norton support.
