Norton WiFi Privacy Critical Update

More a question. My Norton WiFi Privacy connection was terminated with a warming that a Critical Update was necessary to keep using it. This isn't what I'm use to seeing from Norton. e.g. killing a session and making download an "Update". Was this really sent by Norton within the past hour? Would Norton Security pick this up?

If you were getting a Ukranian version of Google coming up when you are connected to a US virtual location, Norton is already aware of this issue.

The image you posted has nothing to do with your Norton Wifi Privicy issues. That is a Norton Tamper Protection message. Some Windows process is trying to access a Norton Security file and is being blocked. You will probably find numerous messages of this type. It is normal and nothing to worry about. Just Norton protecting itself.

BC Thompson: I attached a screen shot (zipped, since png file can't be uploaded) of what Norton Security noticed.

BC Here is how to post screenshots to the forums, it makes things easier and safer for everyone. Use the Windows snipping tool to get the screen shot then follow these instructions to post them.

Just an FYI, the google link you posted opened correctly for me in the correct language and URL landed where it should. I think you more than likely have a PUP program (potentially unwanted program) or some sort of infection Norton didn't catch. Download Malwarebytes and run if you will, let us know the results

I uninstalled the "Critical Update", and downloaded an re-installed from Symantec. I ran a Norton Power Eraser. I did this because after this "update" it appeared the "Google" website had been hijacked. When I went to www.google.com, it took me to a version that contained some foreign language. e.g The prompt to use Chrome instead if IE wasn't in English. It appeared to be some (guessing) Eastern  European language. I'm not sure what happened or why Norton Security didn't stop it. I also cleared cookies, history, cache. I attached a screen shot (zipped, since png file can't be uploaded) of what Norton Security noticed.

Hi @BC Thompson,

Thanks for reporting in Norton Community Forums. Do you have screenshot of the update message? and please let us know the version of Norton WiFi privacy installed.

Hello BC Thompson I ran a support chat just a bit ago and asked support about the issue you encountered. Peterweb brought up the fact that you indeed may not have the latest version installed. That WOULD be a legit reason for the critical update warning you received.

Support response to me was:

The message encountered usually happens when the Norton WiFi Privacy app installed on the device is out dated.

To make sure that you have the latest version of Norton WiFi Privacy, you may uninstall current version installed and download the latest version at https://norton.com/nwpwin

Please check your version and update to the newest version at the link provided. Hope this answered your question appropriately. Please let us know.

Cheers

I did not see any update for my Norton Wifi Privacy, NWP.  That does not mean there was not an update recently. Not all users will get the update at the exact same time. It can take a day to get sent to all servers around the world. My NWP is at version 1.1.107.   What version are you using?

If the Admin that SoulAsylum contacted does not come back soon, you could try contacting Norton Support and asking if they know of an update recently released.   www.norton.com/contactcs

Hello again BC. I have contacted an Admin in regards to your issue. Although I believe your issue to be a MIM (man in the middle) exploit of some sort I would like to get the most accurate info. Hope to have those results ASAP.

Cheers

Hello BC Thompson  I will ask one of the guru's that uses this for an answer and post back here.
