Norton Wifi Privacy not opening automatically

I have NWP on my mobile which works fine, but with my home pc and tablet I have to manually click on the icon to open the program, I understand this is not a big deal, but it is not something I usually remember to do..I have re installed the program twice, contacted Norton, but no luck,,,

Any help please

Roxane

Part prodding, part curious :]. My subscription email updates aren't working as I'd like with the filters. So I'm hoping to help and assist more where I can.

Glad to know your issue is better @roxane. I take what @peterweb gives me, and the info around some stuff internally and hope to get user context to investigate personally here so we can make even a harder case. Sorry for the super slow response on my end.

happy to finish this enquiry,,, thank you

No offence taken. Just glad I was of some help.

AFAIK,  ISeeTanamon's post here is due to my prodding in another area of the forums to get help with NWP issues. If you had been told you would get a follow up call, that is another issue that we try to help with by escalating your issue for you. Do you still want a follow up on your original Support contact, or is everything OK now?

sorry if I offended.. did not realise where post came from, was just letting off steam that was told when I was online with Norton that someone would contact me by phone, after escalating the problem (twice), but no one from Norton has done that, so came to the forum in hope someone could assist me,, I have nothing but gratitude for you peter with all the time and help you have given me.  As I said in a previous post, I was losing the will to live, ,lolol.. and getting so frustrated that I couldn't fix the problem myself.

this is the first time anyone from Norton has contacted me,

To be fair, this is predominately a user to user forum. The Gurus here do have access to some Norton employees when it is something we cannot handle.

and after a couple of weeks of this am pretty disappointed that the above message is all I get,

Again, other than asking the question about the OS version, which can be an important detail now that Win 10 is in flux, I sort of covered most things that would be suggested. You reinstalled a couple of times, which is often all that is needed.

I'm glad that things seem to be OK for now.

If you have other questions, be sure to post again for help.

I am running windows 10. build 15063 which I believe is the creators update.... I have not had any more problems for the last couple of days, after following peters advice,,, this is the first time anyone from Norton has contacted me, and after a couple of weeks of this am pretty disappointed that the above message is all I get, anyway, working at the moment, thank you again Peter

Hi Roxanne!

A few questions. What version of the NWP Desktop app (I'm assuming its Windows, since we're talking about Fast Startup) are you using? I see you're using Windows 10 too. Shouldnt be an issue either, but can you also confirm what version of Windows 10 you're at? In the Run area (where you type in stuff and it searches for you) can you type in dxdiag and see what Windows build you're running (should tell us the latest updates, kinda, as well as whether or not you're on Creators).

Just want to get as much info as I can so I can test for myself in our lab area. Thanks Peter for the support!

I have been working through the teething pains of NWP. I have not seen all the issues reported here, but I have had my share and even one of my own.

The Fast Startup  feature can shave time off your startup if you shut down at night. It has also been known to cause issues with other software updating. If you can deal with the added boot time, I would leave it off.

peterweb, on your advice I have enabled the Ethernet again, the VPN is connecting properly now. I will now wait to see how things progress,,,, gee I hope I have not been too much of a problem lolo.... but so good to have someone that can take the time to help... I still have not heard back from Norton. this began around 19th April, and was upgraded twice for assistance. is it ok to leave the fast startup disabled now ????

Hope to be able to finalise this now.....

The network icon in the system tray is correct by showing ethernet when connected to NWP. The TAP v9 adapter is the virtual connection to the internet to access the VPN. You are still using your physical wifi connection.

I think I am losing the will to live lolol....did the fast startup, shut down and restarted a couple of times,,, I had already removed NWP.so re installed again,,, shut down and started, all working well....now I notice the icon in the taskbar for my wifi has changed to a different icon which says Ethernet, went into network connections and says Ethernet 3. TAP-windows adapter V9. if I disable this and go back to my wifi connection, the NWP loses the connection and goes between blue and red,(unsecured connection and connecting).. I do not understand the Ethernet problem,,, think I should be on my wifi connection ????

Sorry. I should have explained the Fast Startup issue. If you had Fast Startup enabled, when you were Shutting Down at night, you were not getting the complete shut down and startup needed by many software packages to complete any pending updates or setup. You do not see anything with Fast Startup changes until you shut down at night.

If you have not already removed NWP and you have now disabled Fast Startup, give it another day or so to see if it made a difference.

i fully shut down, for the night,,, windows 10...I tried the fast start change,, but nothing happened,,, I also turned on my tablet to be sure that was still working,,,, but when I came back to my pc it is now changing between Unsecured network and trying to connect,,, I have signed out signed back in,, rebooted etc,,,, I think I should take this off my pc altogether, I have Norton premium security, and don't go on other networks anyway,,, I think I will make sure the program works on my other items,,,,

I have just reinstalled my NWP because of another issue. Of course I had to sign in when I started up again. I'll see what happens tomorrow.

Do you fully shut down, or do you sleep or hibernate your system over night?

What OS are you using? If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

launch at startup and auto connect both checked

Go back to the settings again and check that Autoconnect is checked.

Hi ,,,, worked fine yesterday,,, but today have to sign in again and password,,,

If you can check again when you log in again tomorrow, see if you have to sign into NWP again.

well everything worked for a day,,, but this morning I need to sign in to start NWP,,, this is so stupid,,, firstly the problem was wouldn't open automatically but was always signed in,,,, now I have to put in all my details to open it,,,, really wish I had saved my money
