I use cogeco as my internet provider. The mail program is Windows live mail. The error message refers to the server will not accept VPN. The mail will only go through with VPN off.
Others here have reported the same issue.
What email provider do you have?
Does the email eventually go through?
Is there any error message when the email does not go through?
Have you restarted your device? Not just shutdown and startup again. If you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled, the shutdown does not really do a complete shutdown that is needed by Norton and many other apps to fully update running system files. If you use Windows 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.
Good news for now. Keep an eye on it for a while and post back if you have problems again.
It is possible that the reinstall picked up a newer version.
I suppose that the uninstall then reinstall procedure seems to work. I was able to get the iPad to turn on VPN.
The mystery is why it wouldn't work when I was out of town. However, I think I will call the problem solved. At least I know I am using Norton WiFi Privacy correctly.
Do you have any other VPN products installed?
Have you tried uninstalling Norton Wifi Privacy, then restarting the iPad and reinstalling?
You might want to check in the Apple forums to see if anyone has seen this the VPN turning itself off. https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipad
IOS 9.3.5--and it is the VPN function in Settings.
What IOS version is on your iPad?
Is it just the Norton Wifi Privacy that is turning off, or is it the iPad's VPN function in Settings that gets turned off?
It happened at the hotel's network and it also happens with my home network.
At home, I can connect my desktop and iPhone, but it seems to reject connecting my iPad.
What network are you connected to when the VPN turns off?
What happens when the VPN turns off when I try to turn it on? I have had that happen to me.
Had you checked that the VPN was turned on in the iPad/iPhone Settings page?
My problem was when I was in a hotel, which had Wi-Fi but was not a secure connection. I opened Norton Wi-Fi Privacy, but I could not turn on VPN. The button had been grayed out, so I could not get the secure connection. Can you think of a reason why I could not turn on VPN at some locations?
Do you see a little box with VPN beside your wifi icon at the top left of the screen? If so, the VPN is already active.
You are correct in saying that it is recommended to have the VPN active when at a public wifi hotspot, like a hotel, coffee shop, etc. That way the information between your computer and the VPN server is encrypted. So no one on the same wifi hotspot can gather any information from your use of the network.
It does not hurt to have the VPN on when you are at home or on a secured network, like your workplace, but it does often reduce your connection speed due to overhead in the encryption and the longer distance the information has to travel.
I have the same problem, it's intermittent. The program will work fine for a few days then it will hang on "connecting" for a few days. It's not my internet speed (120Mbs), nor does rebooting or uninstall/install help. I've been on with support and they've booted the problem up the chain but that was days ago and I've yet to hear anything. It started working again the day after I spoke with support now 3 days later it's stuck again. I'm not really impressed with the product.
I've also discovered that throughput is also dependent on the speed of the server it connects to, in most cases I lose 40 to 50 Mbs in speed compared to my ISP. Additionally, when using auto-connect and getting a server in Washington DC I consistently get a "No Internet" connection at least twice a day. I avoid any server in DC.
I have isolated the problem I was having with logging onto my email account with AOL using Outlook, POP server and SSL. The problem is with the Norton WiFi Privacy application. When enabled, synchronization with the AOL server sometimes would work and other times it did not work. When disabled synchronization always worked.
I reported this to Norton's customer service and terminated my subscription to WiFi Privacy! It is of no use to me with this problem.

I seem to have missed your last post before I replied.
Good news about the reinstall fixing things.

Check this thread to see if it may be related to your issue. Seems there is some incompatibilities with some graphics chips on laptops.

Uninstalled and re-installed fixed the issue.
What I've learned from using Wi-Fi Privacy is the speed of the VPN is determined by the speed of your internet service. If it is slow, Wi-Fi Privacy will be slow in connecting, logging you in. When I attempt to switch locations, and it doesn't seem to catch, I go to Airplane Mode for about ten seconds, and then turn my wi-fi back on. That usually gets Privacy moving again, and switches to the location I am attempting to go to.
