I have been a Norton user for many years. It is installed on my pc and my wife's, both operating under Windows 7. My wife is now deluged with Pop Up ads in the lower right hand corner of the screen. I have performed complete Noron scans, but Norton comes up with nothing, and does nothing to eliminate the ads. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Abradaxis:....The ads do not appear in my browser, which is Internet Explorer and, at times, Chrome. They appear on the desktop, stacked, on the lower right hand corner. I ran Malware Bytes, which took about five hours, and showed me 560 quarantined files. But as soon as I restarted my computer, many programs would not execute. I was forced to restore all 560 files, since there was no indication of a particular problem on just a few of them, and I could not start singly deleting each quarantined file....
Hi Abradaxis:
Did you post in the Malwarebytes's free Windows Malware Removal Help & Support board at https://forums.malwarebytes.com/forum/7-windows-malware-removal-help-support/ and ask them to check if your computer is infected as bjm_ suggested <above>? Instructions for posting in that malware removal board are pinned at the top of that board in the thread I'm Infected - What Do I Do Now? Everything you've posted up to now indicates this computer is heavily infected, and their trained malware removal specialists will work with you one-on-one until they're certain your system is clean.
Also see my 26-May-2020 post in Wesmania77's Strange Text Message about Malwarebytes Free. I always have Settings | Security | Potentially Unwanted Items set to Warn User for both PUPs (potentially unwanted programs like browser toolbars, adware, potentially dangerous utilities like registry cleaners, driver updaters, etc.) and PUMs (potentially unwanted registry modifications) so I'm notified before any lower-risk threats are removed. Always start with a Threat Scan, which is Malwarebytes' recommended scan method that detects threats in the most common system locations; if the Threat Scan is clean then you can move on to a Custom (Full System) Scan - see the support article Scan Types in Malwarebytes for Windows v4 for more information.
Could you post an image of one of your pop-up ads as bjm_ requested, or at least tell us if they appear to be from Norton? You can disable some of Norton's pop-up notifications at Settings | Administrative Settings like Norton Task Notification (which reports if background tasks like Automatic LiveUpdates have run while your system is idle) and Special Offer Notification (which shows ads from Norton about promotions, discounts, or special deals) as instructed in the support article View or Change Norton Device Security Administrative Settings, but this isn't going to help if the pop-ups from your system tray / desktop are not from Norton.

Abradaxis,
I've been using AdBlock for years - it's great.
Thank you blane. We are waiting for the end of June, at which time two new speedy pcs with electronic hard drives, mucho memory and, naturally, Windows 10 will be delivered. However, my wife is struggling now with her desktop pretty much obscured for much of the day with popup ads, so I was hoping to solve this problem. As I mentioned, I'm really considering not putting Norton on my new pcs, since my experience with them has been so disappointing regarding pop ups. Maybe MWB, since it will be going on a clean machine, and I won't have to deal with 560 quarantined files to start. What do you think, blane and mj_?
You should REALLY upgrade your Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 for many security reasons. That can still be done at no cost to you. Numerous solutions to a free upgrade can be Googled.

Great, thanks. Finally! Talk about hiding things. I am at Version 22.20.2.57. Does this help?
....no matter where I go on my Norton site,
Sorry, not on NortonLifeLock web site.
On NortonLifeLock device security - resident product - main window - user interface > Help
Find the version number of your product
Start Norton.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

In the Norton main window, click Help.

In the Help Center window, under General Information, click About.

I absolutely see exactly what you are looking for, and, no matter where I go on my Norton site, I cannot replicate the page you are pointing to. I sign in, and go to every page listed in the menus and submenus, I cannot find the page you want. Is there any chance that I do not have the service you are looking for? It seems there are many Norton products, and I never was aware of what exactly I had paid for, or what I was running. It must be frustrating for you to point out what you want, and I cannot get there. Any other suggestions would be very helpful.
I tried to access the help screen in Norton, and when I clicked on finding my version number of Norton 360, Norton told me that I was "up to Date" with the "latest version." Nowhere was a version number cited.
Help > Help Center > About > Version: 22.20.2.57
Sorry for all the back and forth, but accessing the requested information is not easy, but thanks again to all the contributors. I made a big mistake, but I inadvertently gave you the incorrect version of Windows. I am running Windows 7, with automatic updates applied, although there isn't much updating since we are EOL on Windows 7. I don't know how I could have stated that I was on XP. Next, I tried to access the help screen in Norton, and when I clicked on finding my version number of Norton 360, Norton told me that I was "up to Date" with the "latest version." Nowhere was a version number cited.
Regarding a picture of the ads popping up, I am still waiting for permission from my wife to get time on her computer.
Oh....just read Windows XP?
That shook me too and I was surprised to find it does/did exist, 15 years ago!

Are these new features valid for Norton under Windows 7 which is approaching EOL?
BTW I use AdBlock Free
Abradaxis:Thanks for your reply. I am running Windows XP, 64 bit version. I do not know what SP Version, but I have automatic updates installed and I believe I am at the latest version. I am on Norton 360 Deluxe. No matter where I go logged into my Norton account, I cannot find a version number.
Windows XP? SPn?

Maybe, Community member can imagine the pop up ads?
Thanks for your reply. I am running Windows XP, 64 bit version. I do not know what SP Version, but I have automatic updates installed and I believe I am at the latest version. I am on Norton 360 Deluxe. No matter where I go logged into my Norton account, I cannot find a version number. But I am on live update, so I am on the latest version of Norton 360 Deluxe. The picture of the ads are on my wife's computer and I can try to obtain them, but once they are cleared out, it takes a while to get them back. I will try to get a print screen the next time I have access to the pc. Did I mention this before,? but I appreciate the help.

Any further steps to remove the ads would be greatly appreciated, but it is very disheartening that running a complete Norton scan produces no results!
