this is weird I never got a email saying the new 6.0 was available to down load it my HP tower wont take the cd I got now and it tryed to scann. I called tech suppoirt they said I am having probs on my side they want 75.00 I said F that I paid for the cd a month ago. so if probs on my HP tower should I have probs with my Laptop still? thanks I now use Microsoft Security essentials I am still allowed 3 uses

Hi rodney2009,

Can you give us a bit more information about your problem?  Can you tell us which Operating System,  service packs installed and whether 32 or 64 bit.

You say HP tower won't take the CD.  Is this system running Vista?  N360v6 requires Service Pack 1 installed and I would recommend to also have SP2.

You rang Tech Support and they want you to pay cash?  Customer Support is available for free while your subscription is current  (although virus removal may cost).  You can reach them here  -  http://www.norton.com/chat.  Live chat is usually the quickest.

Please give us some more details,  including any error codes you see.

Thanks,  Dave.

I have 5.0 this was installed on 2 units one I sold and she decided she did not want it so they took off that use for me it was windows 7 and then I installed it on my HP laptop once and same code 5..0 360 now that they new virsion is out they said my unit wont take it . I dont remember the codes that showed up but it said ur blocked and install could not go on my HP desk top win 7 as well. win 7 has only ser pack one. I told them I dont have visa or mc so I was SOL.

also when I got the HP tower it had MSE (microsoft security essentials) and was uninstalled and rebotted they asked why I wanted off told them so after that rebooted and then installed NV.

If you sign in to your Norton Account you will see if you have any available installations.  If you have none,  then you may be best contacting Customer Support via the link in my previous post to free up the unused install.  Alternatively,  you can sign in to Norton Management and go to account.  You can then see the activations and remove one by clicking the garbage can icon.

If you have an available installation,  you can download a fresh copy of N360v6 from within your account.  Remember to run Live Update,  rebooting where required,  until you are current.

N360 will remove MSE when you install because the two will not live happily together.

I hope this helps.

Dave.

this is dumb I got old virsion it wont work with my HP Tower noone told me new virsion was available and I got the 5.0 on HP Laptop still workes when I incerted cd to HP tower it would not work they damb wanted 75.00 I said no way I still am close to 200 some what days left of support. anyhow I may not use ur stuff ever again. or buy. [edit: Clarified  subject.]

Rodney2009

If you have a valid subscription with time to run for Norton 360 3 PC or more PCs then you can install V6 on your HP Tower and activate it with the KEY from V5; you can update your V5 installation to V6 if you want to with no charge.

Anyone telling you that you have to pay 75.00 has misunderstood or is not Norton and is scamming you .

Can you confirm that the N 360 V5 on your laptop is NOT a 1 PC version. You can check in your MyNortonAccount and it will tell you how many activations you have left.

And also what version of Windows is installed on your HP Tower including the Service Packs and whether 32 bit or 64 bit -- if you press the WINKEY & Pause keys at the same time this brings up System Information and you will find all this there. If it does not say 64 bit then you have 32 bit Windows.

its a 64 bit thanks ser pack one I called them directly told them my install was not secsessfuly they said why. and I had to call other toll free number thats when they said I had to pay for the help.

I have doubts that you were talking with Norton but rather with one of the many scammers we hear about.

But let's try and help you.

Firstly -- what security application came preinstalled on your HP Tower and how did you remove it before trying to install the N 360 V5 ?

Please let us know. If it was other than Norton then we can give you a link to its special cleanup tool.

If it was Norton (HP often installs Norton Internet Security as a trial) then download and run the Norton Removal Tool as below:

This link Symantec Norton Removal Tool. will direct you to the Symantec Norton Removal Tool which will remove and clean up all Norton applications so if you have any others than the one we are trying to clean up make sure you have the installation media for it.

Run this tool a couple of times with a reboot inbetween.

Then you can use your laptop to download a single file installation package for Norton 360 -- you don't say if you have N 360 Standard (2GB of free OnLine Storage) or Premier (25GB of free OnLine Storage) so here are both but choose the right one since the keys are not interchangeable:

Norton 360 6.0 Standard Edition

Norton 360 6.0 Premier Edition

You can copy those to a thumbdrive or CD to run on the desktop after cleaning up as described and it should install N 360 V6 on Windows 7 64 bit.

On Windows 7 64 bit I would start the installation by right mouse clicking on the downloaded file and selecting Run as Administrator .

This should give you a short trial period but click on Support and select the Subscription Status and that should ask you to log into your MyNortonAccount and will pick up your existing subscription. If that doesn't work then just copy the KEY from your V5 CD into the Have Existing Key box.

Ask if anything is not clear.

Once it is installed run LiveUpdate manually several times with a reboot inbetween until it tells you that it is fully uptodate.

ran the removal tool. I had Microsoft sec essentials on here before and they helpped me remove the thing they remoted my unit I watched while doing it. Thanks M soft asked why I wanted to remove I said cause I have my owne sec.

OK If you are happy Microsoft got it off otherwise here is a link to their instructions:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/securitytipstalk/archive/2010/10/29/how-to-uninstall-microsoft-security-essentials.aspx

Have you done the rest of the installation yet.

Because it's really a different topic I've asked for your first message and the rest of the subthread to be moved to make a new thread better exposure. You won't lose sight of it because a link will be left here.

the tech on phone told me to go to www.norton.com/n360p_6 to do this and I got MSE on now so dont know if I have to get rid of this before I go to that site? for virsion 6.0

Rodney,

As I told you in your other thread,  N360 will remove MSE because the two will not live happily together.

Dave.

ok I did not see that reply sorry now did

Here is waht I got for problem: when tryed to load 6.0

You tried to install a program that duplicates functions of your current security service.  To protect your computer, duplicate functions were not installed.

You are already protected by: WindowsDefender MicrosoftSecurityEssentials

Notice: Symantec Products (Norton etc)

Portions of this product's install were blocked because you already have FULL antivirus protection already loaded and the product you are trying to install duplicates functions already registered in Windows. Company: symantec corporation Product: norton 360

MS client what ever that means is holding it up

Hugh has given you a link to the MSE removal instructions.

Rodney,

I'm getting confused.

What version of Norton 360 V5 do you have installed on your laptop and from which you want to use the KEY and existing subscription? Is it Standard or Premier ? This is essential. PLEASE  ANSWER!

<< the tech on phone told me to go to www.norton.com/n360p_6 to do this   >>  That is the download link for the Premier version and won't work if you have the Standard.

<<  I got MSE on now so dont know if I have to get rid of this before I go to that site? >>  I thought you said Microsoft had removed it and asked you why you wanted to remove it.

If it is still there follow the instructions on the link I gave you. That comes from Microsoft and is preferable to relying on N360 doing it.
