[NortonAntiSpam] Emails

I keep recieving emails with the title "[NortonAntiSpam]..."

They obviously arent official Norton emails because of their content (mostly dating scams).

I was wondering how i can block them (i'm using Windows Live Mail). I've tried blocking them individually (the Domain also) but they keep appearing ...most annoying.

Hi Greg_Hann,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

Which Norton product do you have and what is the version? The version can be found in Support > About. What version of Windows and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit? Also which email client do you have?

This is perfectly normal because Norton automatically detects the SPAM and prepends "Norton Antispam" to the subject line. You should see these emails being automatically filed into your Junk email folder or Norton Antispam folder.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Hi Allen, thanks for the reply.

To answer the questions,

I'm using Norton Internet Security V19.2.0.10.

Windows 7 32bit. For some reason it won't install the SP1

Not sure about the email client, would that be POP3? I'm just using Windows Live Mail to access mail from my ISP's server.

Are you saying that N.I.S. is adding "[Norton AntiSpam]" to these emails, if so, it's working great. All i have to do is work out how to make Windows Live Mail recognise these emails and block them.

At the moment i have to go through them individually and "Add sender's domain to blocked sender list."

Ok, so i don't know a lot about using Windows Live Mail, only how to read, move, or remove them. I was just concerned because they have the prefix "[Norton AntiSpam]" so i thought they might be using the "Norton" name to slip through, ...like the mob that keeps ringing and saying they're Microsoft certified technicians and want to fix my PC - Not falling for that one either.

Hi Greg_Hann,

If you are seeing "Norton Antispam" being prepended to the subject line, then NIS should already be "blocking" the emails. The "Norton Antispam" means that NIS has already detected the email as SPAM.

Now the only other question is what folder in your Live Mail client are you seeing these messages go to? As I mentioned earlier anything prepended with "Norton Antispam" should automatically be filed in the Junk Email folder or the Norton Antispam folder. In other words anything tagged with "Norton Antispam" in the subject line should NOT be in your Inbox.

If the messages in question are already going to your Junk email folder or Norton Antispam folder then everything is working as it should be.

If you want everything that NIS detects as SPAM to automatically be added to your blocked list then you can set accordingly in NIS. This is found in Settings > Network > Message Protection > Blocked List > Configure button to the right. At the bottom of the Blocked List configuration window you will see something which says "Add senders of email reclassified as Spam to Blcoked List". You can choose Always, Never or Ask Me.

It sounds like you want to choose Always since it appears that you want anything detected as SPAM to always be in your blocked list.

Hope this clarifies.

Best wishes.

Allen

Hi Greg_Hann,

This is concerning. I know this is another subject but what happens when you try to install SP 1?

If you have not used them already you may be entitled to free support from Microsoft to help you get SP 1 installed. Please check the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295539

There is an 800 number in there for Microsoft. I would suggest calling them to see if you qualify for free techincal support.

If you don't qualify for free support you can always post in the Microsoft Answers forum or even the Norton Tech Outpost board to get assistance with installing SP 1.

I highly recommend that you get this issue resolved and get SP 1 installed - please don't ignore this problem.

Though rare, it is possible that NIS could be causing problems installing SP 1. To check this I would recommend that you first download SP 1 if you haven't already and then disconnect from the Internet (for your protection) then right click on the NIS icon in the task tray and choose Disable Antivirus Auto-Protect. See if SP 1 installs successfully. If it does not then NIS is not likely causing the problem. Once done be sure to enable NIS auto-protect again before connecting back to the Internet.

Windows Mail is not a supported program for AntiSpam client integration, so messages marked [Norton AntiSpam] will go to the indox rather than the junk folder.  The solution to this is to create a message rule in Windows Mail to move all messages that are marked [Norton AntiSpam] to the Junk folder or a Norton AntiSpam folder that you create yourself.  You would periodically need to check this folder for legitimate messages that may have been mis-classified as spam.

Hi Greg_Hann,

Sorry, my brain must have skipped a beat or something for that not to have hit me at the time of my last post.

It is true that only Outlook and Outlook Express has the Client Integration with Norton.

To set up message rules for Live mail 2011, please see the following Microsoft Answers thread:

http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/is/whatforum/thread/4800c443-25df-4b11-8899-def3672bf2f7

You will want the rule to basically be that any email message with "Norton Antispam" in the subject line should be moved to the Junk Email folder or some other folder of your choice.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Hi Allen,

I've changed the message supply setting to always so i'll see how i go.

Regarding SP1, i've searched through a lot of windows forums, etc and tried a few solutions but nothing has worked, i think one of them was to disable the internet and close all programs, including those in the taskbar, still didn't work. One day i'll get around to backing irreplacable info up then re-format & re-install.

Hi Greg_Hann,

Thanks for the update.

Please remember to set up the message rule in your Windows Live mail program as mentioned earlier. This message rule is needed to ensure that any emails which are tagged as Antispam get moved to the folder of your choice automatically.

I would also recommend that you explore SP 1 options more, again you "may" even be entitled to free support from Microsoft but only they can say for sure. SP 1 has been out officially for about 11 months now.

Best wishes.
