Just below where is shows your "Security Status", does it display a "FIX NOW" button?

I currently own Norton’s internet security, lately when I go to update it—it appears all the downloads are accepted and turn green.  The problem is it never changes the status bar from at risk to secure.  If you run it again, it says all items are up to date and still won’t turn it to green/secure.  What is going on?  My subscription is current, and I’ve run a scan and no viruses appear.  Every other option on the screen says secure except for the protection updates which no matter how many times I run a fix now…it won’t change.  What am I doing wrong?  Is there a patch to fix this??  HELP!!!   Thanks

I am running Norton's Internet Security 2008, on the home section everything is secure including Windows update--except the protection updates are still at risk.  There is a fix now button on the home section that says at risk, I've used that button too.  When I press it it runs through the updates saying (live update is in progress)

check for updates.......completed

download updates.......skipped

process updates......skipped.

Live update finished no new updates found------your system is up to date

So you hit finish thinking all is good.  Yet the "at risk "in the protection update section never changes back to secure even if you reboot it.  If it has updates it will tell you what the updates it's has downloaded, and will install them, instead of saying skipped it will say completed.  No matter what I do the red button (at risk) never goes away from the protection update section.

Okay, you may be getting a duplicate message from the Windows Security Center.

Try this:  Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Double click “Services” to open it.

Scroll to the bottom third of the page and look for “Security Center”. Double click on it. A new dialogue box describing Security Center will appear.  Click the stop button to stop the service, then look for the dropdown box next to “Startup Type”.

Select “disabled”. Then click “apply” and “okay” out of it. Close all open windows and restart your computer.  See if Norton is happier now.

What you have just done is to disable the Windows Security Center (sounds scary, but it’s not). All this process does is MONITOR you Firewall, Antivirus protection and Windows Updates. It does NOT turn any of them off.  Since Norton is already monitoring these items, why have Windows also monitor them? Sometimes this can cause a conflict. This change will not affect your protection nor will it affect your Automatic Windows Updates.

It this does not resolve your issue, you can always go back to services and turn on the Security Center if you wish.  I have mine disabled.

In the Security Center, the startup type was already disabled and I didn't have to hit the stop button cause it was already stopped.

Understood.

Let me think on this. You have manually run Live Update, correct?

Perhaps someone else will come up with a viable answer in the meantime.

Looks like the "Live update" file may of been corrupt, missing an update, or something.  I ended up figuring it out....I downloaded and ran the PIUpdate tool and then ran the tool to start the live update.  The link follows incase someone else has the same problem as I----just follow the steps.  As we speak everything is secure.  Thanks for all the help..............

Are you running both NIS 2008 and NIS 2009?  When you say "Norton Security Center" do you mean "Norton Protection Center"?  Are you running Norton System Works?

Ocean_lei,

Congratulations!

Are you running NIS 2008?

Go the "Home Tab" in the Norton Control Center. Is everything there listed as secure, including Windows Automatic Update?
