Using the latest update, as i uninstalled and re-installed 5 times, this was due to Nortons not opening when i need to update or scan. I click on the program and after a while i get the error box up with ERROR CODE 8504.106.
I can see Nortons is protecting my system by looking at the windows firewall, this says nortons is protecting my system.
After i re-installed the program loads, installs then i get to the compleation stage were nortons has the 'EXPLORE' button, i click on that and after a few minutes it dissapears and i dont enter into the program...
shane1964 - Welcome to the Community and here is a LINK to another post, that was also having trouble with error 8504,106. It's a long discussion and I think a solution was found on post 17. You may read through that post and see if it helps you. You didn't mention your PC's Operating System so it may not apply to your PC, but maybe it will work. Come back and let us know if it works for you. Good luck.
Tried everything from the other threads with no luck, i am running xp with sp3....
Try the steps in the following Support Article:

Do you have any other antivirus products installed? If you have, remove it.
Here's a link to brand spanking new, just released Norton document dealing with this error code:

Thank you Hugh, for the link to the newest solution. I hope it helps solve this problem.
i have no antivirus progs running, and all this NEW thread basically says is uninstall & reinstall NIs, i have tried this a bout 20 times now as well as the other options from other threads, the new one is less help...
Im starting to go for a formta c drive ask for a refund and go to CA that never failed me..
right here goes.....
1 uninstal NSI completely with the removal tool..
2 Delete the Nortons folder (i found it in the programs folder)
3 run a full cbkdisk at start up
4 shut down the system (without running NIS re instal)
5 re start the system with another chkdisk scan.
6 re boot & down load NIS
7 re install NIS.
Not sure if this will work for every one but this ttime every time windows re starts i have NIS running again...
Hope this helps if some one else gets this error & the problem of the program not being able to start ...
Thanks for every one who tried to help me...
