About an hour ago I could not get Internet access on another computer using Windows 8.1. The function 12 button is lighted indicating the adapter is working (I think). But on the charms settings Internet icon there is a red X. Clicking that icon will show the Networks. The Airplane mode is off as is the Wi-Fi. So sliding the Wi-Fi to the ON position results in a few seconds of the spinning timer, then the slider automatically slides back to the off position. I rebooted the computer. No difference other than a pop-up box says Windows Defender looking for malware. Having a Norton 360 multi-device subscription (with this computer-Windows 7- and the Windows 8.1 computer both on the account) I looked for the Norton Icon and it was missing. It has been present and working for some time. In fact the subscription was renewed just last week. I now see that Windows Defender has automatically popped up on the screen and is doing a quick scan. So what happened to Norton and is this a mal-ware issue and if so how did I get it. And how do I first get back to Internet access? Thanks for reading.
