We purchased our HP computer in 2010 with a 3-yr subscription to Norton Internet Security pre-installed on it. The computer is running very slowly and has 113 MB of disk read activity. Tonight an iyogi technician said Norton was letting all kinds of junk into the computer because Norton's program was configured for a 1.5 processing speed whereas the computer runs at a 2.5 processing speed.
On the internet there are many references to a Norton removal tool and the importance of using it to remove registry errors etc. I also read that you should have your product installation key or installation disk at hand before using the removal tool, but I can't find either. At the Norton webpage there is no mention of the removal tool and just an invitation to download the latest version of the product.
I wonder why the Norton program was not properly configured for our computer's 2.5 processing speed since it was pre-installed with the computer. More importantly, though, what should I do now?
