NRnR deleted NGH

I had to use NRnR for NIS and this also deleted NGH so it took an hour to reinstall NGH. I now have all the previous backups I did with NGH but appears I cannot use them as it is impossible to import the old schedules (PQJ files in the Schedule folder).
Fortunately I took a screen snapshot of the backup jobs as a precaution and I can create new backup jobs but they don't show anything under 'Last Run' which makes me think that this will just create a new backup instead of incremental.
This really is a pain that NRnR does not give a choice of what we want deleted. I only wanted to reinstall NIS so this tool should have left NGH alone.

Is there any way to use the old settings. I tried copying the text from the old settings but as soon as NGH clooses it changes the text of the pqj file back.

Hi,

Sorry you are having a problem. Both the Norton Removal Tool and the NOrton Remove and Reinstall Tool will remove everything Norton from your system. About the only way to do a selective uninstall is via the control panel. It isn't a complete, clean uninstall but at least after the reboot you still have yor other Norton products up and running as expected.

It is not possible to tell the new install where you left off with the old one. The new backup jobs will do a fresh full backup and then incrementals as before but they must make a fresh start. You can still access your old backup files if you need them before the new ones make them obsolete.

I'd ask that you post a message in the Product Suggestions Forum about your idea of being able to pick up where your previous install left off. That is the forum that the staff mines for ideas.

Thanks and I hope there's some help here.

You have to stop the ghost service first, then you can change those files.

I'm struggling right now trying to use a silly little iPad at my moms house but try serching theis section for posts by redk9258

using the terms history or .pqj

Dave

Thanks for the information and suggestions.

After reboot the jobs are now mysteriously showing 'Last Run' details, somehow NGH has found this information, however NGH cannot display any recovery points.

I will try stopping the ghost service and changing those files again.

Finally got it working OK. Restoring the old files was creating all sorts of problems so I deleted all contents of Schedule and Log folders and all previous backups and rebooted and the new backup jobs did their work in less than an hour. Will remember to uninstall NIS manually in future and not use NRnR.

Hi,

First, glad you got it all working again. Second, when you go to the control panel see if there's a 'repair' option before you do the uninstall. It might save time and trouble.

Stay well and surf safe
