NS 22.14.0.54 - How to enable Google Chrome Clean Up

Hello, I just updated today my NS to 22.14.0.54 version and everything seem to work fine except new feature "Google Chrome Clean Up". I cannot run this on my both computers with Windows 10... I have also laptops with Windows 7 and 8.1 and it works fine when I run file Cleanup. But this feautre don't work correctly on Windows 10... also I checked all settings and there is no option to enable it.

Anyone have the same problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi, @Mohan_G

I'm happy to say that I solved the problem... well I just simply did a fresh clean installation of the Google Chrome and after that it started to apppear on Norton Security.

Before that first I tried to reinstall Norton Security but that didn't solve the problem. Glad that reinstallation of Google Chrome fixed this issue.

By the way I still don't have idea why Norton didn't detect Chrome in the first place, right after updated NS to the newest version.

Thanks!

Hi @L0ckJaw

You don't have the latest version of Norton Security.. this feature "Google Chrome Clean Up" has been added since 22.14.0.54 version which is the newest by date.

I am using Windows 10 Home (1709) and Norton Security Premium with Polish language... and the same for other PCs.

Hi @got3n,

Thanks for the quick update.

I've sent you a Private Message requesting logs, Please check it when you get a chance.

Also could you let me know the OS and product language in both your Windows 10 PC and the other PC?

Hi, Mohan_G

I confirm both conditions.

And also as I said before I have no problem with this feature on my other PCs with Windows 7 and 8.1 installed.

For me this is the problem for Windows 10 only.

Thanks!

Hi @got3n,

Thank you for reporting this.

Could you confirm if the below conditions are true or false?

  • Google Chrome browser is installed as administrator
  • Google Chrome browser was directly installed from Google Chrome website (and not a pre loaded app from a package manager)

@SoulAsylum I checked this and there is no any option for Google Chrome.

got3n, open settings>administrative settings> background tasks-click configure. See if you can run a Chrome cleanup, then check your history. Admins are working on this one.

Cheers

Here is what I see on my W10 Pro x64 system but, I do not see anything in history related to a Chrome file cleanup what so ever.

This is how it looks on my devices, both running NS 22.14.0.54 and Google Chrome is set as default browser.

1) Windows 8.1

2) Windows 10

Looks like we have our first official bug. @Sunil_GA This one is for the dev team.

@SoulAsylum Well, I already have Google Chrome set up as default browser on all my computers.

Set Chrome as the default browser on the W10 machine. Run Chrome and recheck your history again.

Yep. As I said it works automatic for Windows 7 and 8.1 but this feature isn't working on Win 10.

@SoulAsylum On Win 10 I have also IE listed under FileCleanUp and nothing about Google Chrome.

got3n Check your history under file cleanup for entries that Chrome cleanup is done when you close the browser. I see IE as being done on my system. Sunil_GA is getting an answer for us on the automatic runs and settings being not available.

Cheers

Hello got3n From the release notes here my take is its automatic since as you said there isn't a setting to enable/disable. I too don't have that setting in the latest update to the product. I can ask one of the admins whether my assumption is correct and post that answer here.

Cheers
