NU vs. NSW Product Suggestion

I'm very disappointed that Symantec has elected to discontinue Norton SystemWorks in favor of Norton Utilities. I found the NSW user interface much more straightforward and intuitive than the NU GUI--for example, when I have a Windows problem I just want to tell it to fix Windows (i.e., run WinDoctor) rather than to have to decide exactly what function of NU I should run.

And the ability to run from CD-ROM is sorely missed, for two reasons:

  1. 1. I NEVER want to install the software on the computer, because it hangs on and won't let go. For example, I had to dismount a disk, and I can't do so with this software installed, it won't let me. I have to not just turn it off, I have to uninstall it.
  2. 2. I have 11 computers (yes, in my home), and I have no interest in buying 4 copies of NU, not for as little as I use it. I'd much rather have one I can run from CD-ROM on those rare occasions it's needed.

In the past I've been a supporter of Symantec products (bought the new version each year for the past 10 years), but now I'm going to look at competitors.
