Number 1 appearing on Norton Android icon

I have Norton installed on my Samsung Android phone.  A white "1" in an orange circle continually appears superimposed on the Norton icon on my home screen.  This would seem to signify some kind of message, notification, problem(?), but when I open Norton, nor matter where I look, I can't find anything that seems to relate to the "1" and when I go back to the home screen, the one is usually still there.  It disappears sometimes, but it always comes back.

Since this is an internet security application, doesn't it make sense that this should relate to some kind of message I need to address?  If not, why is it there?  Yet when I called Norton support today, I was told that this "1" doesn't mean anything and it wasn't meant for me.  What the...?  If it doesn't mean anything and there's nothing I need to do, why the hell is the app constructed to reveal this BS "1?"  It causes unnecessary stress trying to find out what Norton seems to be contacting me about and worry when I can't find anything!  If it's meaningless, shouldn't the app be redesigned so that a meaningless "notification" isn't produced?

Just utter nonsense, and a waste of my time waiting on tech support for this non-answer.

There currently is no way to change this behaviour. It is all or nothing.

This might be a good suggestion for the Product Suggestions board https://community.norton.com/forums/product-suggestions

Thanks for the information.  but doesn't it seem that a notification should only be given when there is something that needs my attention? Using your directions, I found that the most recent alert letting me know that a scan had been completed without any threats being detected.  I don't need to be told when everything is alright any more than I need the police to come to my door to tell me that I'm not being arrested.  An alert for a non-event is not helpful.  Just the opposite.  It suggests there is something to be concerned about, and not having any clear indication of what the notice is only causes anxiety over what may be at risk.  If there isn't anything concerning, then I don't need a notification.
Is there a way to set the notifications so that I only get them when there's something that requires my attention?

The numbers on the Norton icon refer to an Android notification. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see what the notification is.

If you no longer wish to see these notifications you can turn them off in Android Settings > Notifications.  It is the App icon badges that display the numbers. To stop notifications for Norton 360, just turn off the button beside it.

I had a message also which said "upgrade your Android operating system".

Norton no longer supports any Android less than 8.0 but I am unable to upgrade to Android 8.
