O.K. to delete the site owner verification html file that was uploaded to root of site?

Re: during the process of requesting that a site be verified, the site owner must upload a file to the site's root directory or copy specific text into the <head> section of the site. Then Norton Safe Web verifies ownership and then evaluates the site for safety, thus earning (hopefully) the little green checkmark next to the site name in the search results.

My question is this: once this process is complete, owner verified, and site evaluated, is it then okay to delete the html file from the site root (example: nortonsw_4apm2b20-6c4c-0.html)... or alternatively the text that was placed in the header of the site?

Thank you.

Sandy

Excellent. Thank you for your quick reply.

I'm actually quite surprised that there was no mention made of this on the instructions page or in the email. That would probably be a good thing to mention near the end of the instructions that come in the email:

[Norton Safe Web] You have initiated registration as the owner of a Web site.

FOR EXAMPLE:

...

  2. Log on to Norton Safe Web, click my profile to open the user profile page
  3. Click site dispute and under Actions column, click verify site ownership.

Once the Status column reads: owner verified, you may delete the html file from the site root or remove the code you entered in the <head> section.

Perhaps someone should suggest this to the 'powers that be'.  :-)

Thanks again.

Sandy

HI kitcca,

You are very welcome. A lot of people (myself included actually) just left the code in place after ownership verification.

However I do agree that it would be a good idea for it to be mentioned in your safe web account probably at the time when ownership verification has been completed successfully.

I will pass this suggestion on to the safe web team.

Thanks and best wishes.
