I've been trying to run Norton Power Eraser having downloaded the latest version however each time it goes through the scan and then displays the following message with a continue, cancel and exit button selection.
" Norton Power Eraser has successfully restored internet connection. Hosts file and NPE proxy settings may have been modified."
This occurs both when including rootkit scan and excluding. The internet connection is on at all times, and hitting continue at this message makes NPE go through the whole cycle of checking for updates, scanning and then displays the exact same message again, with no results of a scan at all.
My OS is Vista 64 and I'm using NIS 2011 if that is at all relevant. NPE version number is displayed as 2.0.0.52.
I would appreciate any assistance you can provide or any hints as to what that message actually means.
Hi Leofwine!
I've let the NPE team know about the loop and they are looking into it.
When there is more information either myself or someone from Symantec will update this thread.
Cheers!
Dave
Hi Leofwine,
When this happens the next time you use NPE, please go to the NPE settings page and copy the log file location. Then open windows explorer and navigate to the log file location. Please zip up the files with the .etl extension and send them to me via private message.
Thank you.
Hi siddharth_laksh,
I am having the same problem leofwine has. I have found and zipped up the .etl files in the log location. Could I send them to you and get your help also? If the answer is yes, please let me know how I can attach the zipped files to a private message, as I could not figure out how.
If I should go about addressing this some other way, please let me know.
Thanks,
Martin
I am having the same 'looping' issue. Please advise.
I disabled the Smart Firewall and the program ran successfully.
Thank you.
I am also having the problem but do not know why I was even told to download it. What is the purpose of this program?
