Offline Installation

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time to post in the Norton Forum.

I have seen discussion threads on this topic before, but just want to clarify a few things in relation to installation of Norton Security in the download/media-less age. As a Norton customer for over 12 years, I am not a fan of the new methods of installing Norton security products via download and online installation. I much preferred when it was possible to go offline, uninstall the old version of Norton and then install the new version from a CD/DVD ROM disk while remaining offline. Then, with all the services of auto-protect up and running, you could go back online and run LiveUpdate to get virus definitions and other updates installed. I am uncomfortable going onto the internet to download and install new versions of the Norton product with the "shields down", so to speak, even for what may be a relatively short space of time.

From what I have read before here I am not alone in what I feel about this issue. I am wondering though if it is possible to download and save the new version of the product, not just the installer to the hard disk, go offline and uninstall the old version of the product and then run the new installation while remaining offline? Were this possible, or made possible, I believe it would be a far safer method of installing new Norton security products. I know Norton aren't alone in this brave new world of downloading everything, but I truly think it should not be done this way when it comes to the installation of security software.

I would appreciate any help or advice community members could give.

Thanks in advance,

Ger B
