Old style Norton security log? Where can I find it?

Moved to Norton 360 forum for better exposure.

I'm having problems establishiing a simple file share between two PCs, one running XP professional and the other Vista Home Premium.

I can get it to work if I turn Norton 360 off on both computers and turn the Windows Firewall on.

With Norton 360 on and Windows firewall switched off, I can get it to work occasionally, but it never last long.

According to an event reported on the XP computer, the problem seems to be that the Vista computer is blocking requests from the XP computer for a list of servers from the browser master [\\Vista computer] on the network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{*}. * = a long string.

I can't see an equivalent event in the log on the Vista computer, so I'm guessing that Norton is blocking the request.

In the old days, I'm sure Norton had a log you could open to view blocked requests.

I can't find it any more.

All I can find is a self-congratulatory summary of what Norton 360 has done for me recently, on which I will pass no further comment.

Is there any way I can access the old-style security log? Or is that a thing of the past?

I asked the mods to move it to the 360 board as well! I thought I was in the 360 board. Newbies huh?!

Version of 360 running on both XP and Vista machines is 2.5.0.5

Not networking myself, and I am using N360  version 4.0.0.107 Beta, don't know if N360 vers. 3 is the same

If you click on 'Settings' at top of Norton N360 vers 4 window, then click 'My Network', then use the configure buttons on the right, for 'Network Security Map' and 'Trust Control', you may find something there to help you,

Edit.

Just seen your next post, never used  N360 vers.2, but you may find something along the same lines.

I have recommended Remaha in their other thread to upgrade to Norton 360 version 3.5

I'm downloading v3 as we speak.

In v2.5 all the trust control settings were as they should be.

I'll try loading v3 and get back to you.

I'd still like to know whether Norton 360 allows you to inpect a log showing what actions the firewall has blocked though.

I can't believe it's not there any more.

I am unfamiliar with the interface of Norton 360 - I have got NIS 2010, but I think you may be able to see what Norton firewall has blocked in Norton 360’s Security History (if it has such an option).

Wha'dya know.

I've loaded v3 and the security log is now easy to find!

I haven't tried the network yet.

But at least I have the tools to see what's going on now.

Problem half solved.

Glad upgrading to the latest version helped - thanks for posting back with the outcome :-) Upgrading can solve quite a lot of bugs :-D

LOL!

If I solve the networking issue, I'll come back and give you a solved on this thread, plus a pile of kudos.

I've already done both on the other thread about the shell extension. :smileyhappy:

Thanks, Remaha, I’m glad I could help with your other thread. If you are still having issues with the networking, please tell us and describe what you are experiencing and give us the details.
