This is for systemworks 2008, I don't know about earlier versions.
Launch systemworks
Open advanced options (settings->additional options->advanced options)
You can either disable norton clean-up as part of one-button check-up, in which case click one-button checkup settings and deselect norton clean-up.
Or you can change the clean-up settings to not remove cookies by looking at the settings for norton clean up under "internet clutter."
hope this helps.
I think One Button Checkup is part of Norton SystemWorks. It was included when I upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2008 earlier this year, and after that One Button Checkup started scanning and removing cookies from my browser. I have never been able to find out how to turn it off, but I don't want it running.
I am using Windows XP, SP2 and Internet Explorer 7.
ShosuroKenshin - thanks so much for your post. I have de-selected to remove 'unwanted' cookies from Norton Clean-up. It's not supposed to remove good cookies, but it has always removed every cookie. So, it's worthless to me.
Thanks,
Cyndi

Thanks for the information.
I'm a little puzzled. If something is part of Norton SystemWorks and you have upgraded to Norton Internet Security it sounds as if you have a mix of products. Now NSW is a bit special in that it does include Norton AntiVirus which is also in Norton Internet Security so there is an overlap there.
Do you really want to retain bits of NSW?
If not then I suggest you uninstall both using Add/Remove Programs for each and that you then run the special Norton Removal Tool that will clean up some more.
If you already have a copy of NRT, I would not trust an older copy of SymNRT to be able to remove all the latest patches to the software. Since Norton are updating their products all the time, the Norton Removal Tool is constantly updated.
This link: Symantec Norton Removal Tool. will direct you to the current Symantec Norton Removal Tool.
Then re-install your current Norton Internet Security 2008 which so far as I can see from my copy (also under XP Pro) does not have a one-button checkup.
It will check for different types of "risk" and that can include cookies. I'd rather let someone else advise you what settings to use and where to find them but I think looking under Low Risk Actions may cover them:
About Exclusions Low-Risk Action options
You can use the Exclusions Low-Risk Action options to manage the low-risk items that are found in the following categories:
If you do want to combine both NSW and NIS then I believe the correct procedure is to install NSW using the Custom option and unchecking Norton AntiVirus since that is in NIS. There is conflicting advice here about which of NIS and NSW you should install first ....
I hope that helps. Meanwhile could you confirm whether you really want bits of both NSW and NIS? My own opinion is that the sort of utilities in NSW are less and less needed as Windows and hard drives have changed over the years -- Keep it Simple!
Please tell me how I can get One Button Checkup to STOP removing all my good cookies. I have no idea which cookies are the ones I need to keep, but it is extremely frustrating to have it pop up when I am not at my computer and remove all my cookies that I NEED to keep. I don't like this feature and would like to just turn OFF One Button Checkup, but I can't figure out how to do that.
Thanks,
Cyndi
It would help you get help if you said what Norton Product – name/version number or year – you are using and what version of Windows.
