One year Now - Still Not Fixed

Norton this is incredible.   These software bugs are now over a year old.  Yet they still are not fixed.

Users have been reporting these issues for over a year.  Not a single fix.  You should be embarrassed!

Everyone I know that uses Norton for Mac is beyond frustrated.

Here is the list of issues:

1. Very slow start up - adds almost two minutes to the boot sequence time.  This is on a fast top of the line iMac.

2.  Persistent requests to allow apps on to the internet.

Norton for Mac incessantly pops up requests for protocols that should be automatically allowed on the Mac.

- avconferenced (is the daemon that handles all webcam requests on macOS)

- CommCenter (service handling network connectivity on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.)

- rapportd (daemon that enables phone call handoff & other communication features between Apple devices.)

- sharingd (daemon that enables AirDrop, Handoff, Instant Hotspot, Shared Computers, and Remote Disc in the Finder.

Unfortunately Norton ignores your settings to allow these protocols.  Please fix! Mac users starting reporting this in May 2019.

3. Norton blocks Disk Utility from erasing disks. It will allow disks to be erased and reformatted in ExFat or Fat.

Norton will not allow disks to be erased and reformatted in APFS or MacOS extended.

4.  No way of telling Norton to stop asking about installing browser add ons.

I have all issues mentionned here + the one regarding Time Machine reliability ( https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-security-time-machine-reliability-trick also appeared in 8.5.7 --> https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-security-857-broke-time-machine-backup )

Any help would be much appreciated

Viewing the last link to your opening post it is indeed something amiss with Norton products. Your second link regarding the port 5060 access, the port is NOT shown in the listing of ports utilized by Apple software products. Other uses for port 5060 are discussed in this article as being primarily SIP, it is NOT registered with IANA, and is also vulnerable, as there are several CVE assignments to its use. Could you read that article and tell us whether you are implementing ANY of those services on your network? Norton may be prompting for the processes in your #1 on that port for those reasons.

It appears that your OS is prompting for the access from the screenshot. Under connection blocking what are the options available when clicking the gear icon at the lower left? This Apple forums discussion MAY answer the fd00 notices and why you are seeing them. In that forums they also say this:

Found the following via an internet search-

Commcenter, it is a framework for Apple Devices like iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The Commcenter is an integral function on an iDevice that is responsible for cellular related services. Disabling the Commcenter leads to loss of network services and many other network issues! The Commcenter is the part of the messaging app that is running on the background even if the app is not opened.

Combined with the SIP issue these two things appear to be interconnected since an Apple device is obviously asking MAC OS for access to CommCenter. Port 5060 is the requested port and shows a definitive MAC address which would have to be on the local network.

The question #3 is something the Norton Team DEFINITELY has to address at their end. In the video the process ID is 292. I extracted a screenshot from the Youtube video below. The pointer is to "com.symantec.mes.system extension", a solution was discussed in this older forums thread. Remnants of a previous removal were causing the issues seen in that thread. Have you looked over that thread previously?

mac.pngI'm trying to follow the path based on what I see is present though I'm not a MAC user. Hoping the Norton team will advise as well.

Cheers

I have heard about Norton before. And finally joined here. Anyways, I would like to install Norton Antivirus right now. What is the yearly cost for Norton?

Ok, here we go.  The problems started with Norton Security for Mac 8.4.  The same problems exist in the current version of Norton 360 version 8.5.8 build 34.

Current Operating System is MacOS 10.15.6.

Hello azdude. Since you have multiple threads on the MAC boards, lets start fresh with some information from you. There is a small guide available when each NEW post is created. It will ask for some basic information from the user creating that post. Such as below:

Providing the CURRENT information regarding your OS version, CURRENT Norton product name and its version would be most helpful. If logs have been sent please tell us that as well. An added suggestion is to maintain ONE thread to a resolution, that way it won't get closed as others have. We are looking forward to your feedback at your earliest convenience.

Cheers
