Online Family does not work

I downloaded the Online Family program without problems.

I added a child in the Manage Settings page. The Social Network Supervision is "On" and there is a text in the child's profile that the child "is protected!" . The Norton Family icon says that the program is active.

However, there is no sign that the program would be working: The program does not block any internet pages, the time blocking doesn't work, the content filtering for Google doesn't work etc.

I have tried the program in two different PC:s (Windows XP and Windows Vista) with IE Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. The program does not work with either OS or browser.

I must have made some essential mistake but I don't know what...

Did you select the child account on the PC in the online family software?

By default no accounts are selected.

Thanks a lot for the answer!

- Yes, I selected the account the child uses. I created a child's account and tried to use the program in for two separate PC:s, but it seems like the program couldn't reach the account (the program doesn't work at all), although the program icon is active and a text "the program protects this account" appears when I log in to the child's account. (The same text appears when I log in my own adult's account...)

Hello petri65,

I can only suggest to check the Norton software settings:

Login as the child and do right click on the Norton Family icon in the tray and then select "View my house rules". Then compare local settings with your online settings.

Ok!  I did as you advised: I logged as the child and did right click on the Norton Family icon in the tray and then I selected "View my house rules": A window (House rules) opens, but no any rules can be seen, the window is empty. If I update the house rules, the program says that the house rules have been updated, but it doesn't change the situation - the house rules still can't be seen.

The program seems to be working, but the connection to the program server or to my Norton Family account could not be established: It seems to me that the program can't import the data from my Norton Family account to my PC.

I can only suggest deinstall the software, restart the computer and redownload online family from your account  (do not use already downloaded software but get new copy) and try to install it again.

I use it on 2 PCs at home and do not any problems. Only yesterday I wasn't able to login to my online account but it seems Symantec had problems with the servers because my NIS also wasn't able to download virus definitions update.

P.S. But I very disappointed with Symantec guys on this forum - why nobody tried to help people? I even can't say "bad support service" - we have no support.

Same problem here - no house rules displayed etc, but it says they are up to date.  Have re-installed multiple times with fresh downloads etc. No web activity being reported either, and it is not blocking requested sites. Basically useless!

Win XP SP3 32bit

Win 7 64bit

I have finally had some success after a couple of months trying !!!

I have already been through all the removal and re-install of Norton Family multiple times, and also the removal of devices etc. etc. to no avail, so I decided to completely remove my (only) child from the online account, leaving the devices as is.

After doing this, I was unable to even log in to my online account at all.  The site just said they were aware of the problem and would correct it.

After a day or so I was able to login in again.  At this point I re-added my child (for XP SP3 device) and was able to download and display house rules.  Web filtering was working OK (tested to a gambling site), but web history etc was still not being displayed Online.

I then forced download of house rules etc. to Win 7 machine, tested gambling site again and all looked OK.  From Win 7 device, web history was getting displayed almost immediately online though.

After another day or so, XP web history started to arrive - so I am nearly there for Windows devices.

Now just need Norton to get Family working on Nexus 7 / Android 4.2.........
