Kinwolf,

When I first opened the History window I was surprised at how long it took to open,  but when I saw the number of entries I started to understand.  This is not just a history of NIS2009, but of all NIS history since I first used NIS on my computer!  I deleted all recent entries not related to a "serious" category.  That gave me some breathing space to begin deleting older (pre-2009) history no longer relevant.  Once I had a more manageable list, things began moving substantially faster.  It is too bad I couldn't find a way to delete a bunch at a time.

Hi mijcar,

Out of curiosity, did you install NIS 2009 overtop of NIS 2008?

I uninstalled NIS 2008 first, and my history starts at the day I installed NIS 2009.

Hi,

On my system with NIS 2009, when I open  the History window to see scan results or alert, the History window actually freeze.  I can't scroll down in it without it taking 2-3 mins to do so and if I select "Analysis Result" in the drop-down menu, it display the latest scan and then freeze there.  I can't close that window at all then!!!  NIS itself stays responsive, it's the History windows that's all screwed up.

Any clue?

Yes, I did install over the top of NIS 2008 -- back in the beta days.  But the last install was after an uninstall followed by a sweep of Norton Removal Tool, so that should have done the trick; but subsequent evidence shows it didn't.  My history after all this still went way back.

I think the problem has been for beta users:  something got left behind from one or some of the builds that neither the uninstall nor the removal tool dealt with -- and that probably explains the problems with the "Chinese characters" also.  I think a lot of this is going to be fixed soon.

Hi Mijcar,

If there is nothing important in the history or issues apart from the slow access of History, I suggest you to clear the submission log or the history of each event and then access the history.

If you think there is something important, you can take a backup of the history(that will be a .mcf file) by clicking on the Export option. Whenever you need it,you can import them. Then delete the history and check whether this made any improvement.

The history file might be big, but the recent scan windows has only 4 scans in it and yet that window completely freeze.

I should add that the firewall popup window(I asked to be prompted for new connection attempt) also takes a long time to appear to me.  I get a blank white windows for 3-4 minutes before finally getting the text inside it.

Ack.  I tried what Phil_D asked, and even the support window is slow as hell before allowing me to click on any link inside it.  I think the problem is general.  Any windows opened beside the main one is unresponsive.  I'll try an re=installation.

Hi kinwolf,

Can you try going to "Help & Support" in the main Norton window. Then select "One Click Support".

After the interface loads, click "Begin Support Session".

That will scan your Norton Product to check for any issues.

Let us know.
