I’m planning on reinstalling my OS (Vista Ult x86 SP2) to resolve some broken files which SFC can’t fix. Built this PC using a legal MS retail DVD purchased in 2007 - with NO integrated service packs. Since slipstreaming SP2 in Vista can be a major PITA, my current plan is to just do a clean install using my on-hand SP zero DVD, then adding SP 1 & 2, & running Win updates until everything is current. Plan is to keep Vista for probably a year or so until MS releases Win 9, Threshold,or whatever they are going to call it. Was considering installing 7, but the retail Win 7 DVD is ridiculously priced, considering its age (yeah, I know I can get Win 7 OEM dirt cheap, but I prefer not to use OEM for various reasons). So the plan is to fix Vista 'till can afford to build a new rig. Main concern: I’m presently on NIS 21.3.0.12 and want to retain my offline Identity safe and not have the Safe moved or copied to cloud storage after reinstalling my OS & NIS. As I understand, the way to do this is to install NIS 2012(?) , followed by running repeated live updates until I’m at the latest version. Am I on track here? TIA, guys -
