Last week I came across one email message from November 2011 ("# PACK MEDICINA #" is about all I can see) which closes Outlook 2010 when I try to access the message -- before I have time to mark it as junk and delete it. This is the only message there's a problem with & I'm quite stumped.
Thanks, Dave!!! I was able to find and delete the problematic message in safe mode. As a side note for others, after deleting the message and exiting Outlook in safe mode, I restarted Outlook in "normal" mode; did a keyword search and located the problem message which closed down Outlook. That's when I realized that in safe mode the items in my Deleted Items folders were not deleted when exiting safe mode. I restarted Outlook in "normal" mode again and then exited -- which permanently deleted the messages in my Deleted Items folders, including the targeted problem message. GREAT Forum here -- Thanks, again!!! Ted
Unless Outlook is already set to compact automatically - and you have not been compacting regularly - you should backup your mail folders first. There is a possibility of folder corruption, especially if compacting has been neglected for a lengthy time.
Yep, just corrected it. Outlook should be compacting deleted messages automatically in the background. I might still be inclined to manually compact the folders after backing up. Better safe than sorry.
Thanks! After printing the article, I did a keyword search for *.ost (nothing found) and *.pst (my outlook files by email address) and then backed up the *.pst files. I went offline and started Outlook 2010, and followed the compacting instructions for Outlook 2010 *.pst files on each of my email accounts.
Just to be sure I didn't miss anything, I began to follow the article's instructions for compacting the *.ost files and was unable to find any Microsoft Exchange Server reference -- thus, I assume that's something not used by me.
Thanks again, to you and Dave for your insight and assistance!!!
