There are other posts about this. NIS does not do SSL but it will scan incoming and outgoing. Honestly speaking POP3 is never agood. I stopped using Outlook years ago. I also have an sbcglobal email address. Why dont you just log into Yahoo for free which is what At&T recommends. Web based email is alot safer. BTW Yahoo scans all attachments with Norton.

I have Outlook 2003 SP3 (Office Pro / XP Pro) and NIS2007 (and just bought NIS2009 but haven't installed it yet).
I have a Wildblue satellite internet connection and their email servers require SSL ports 995 and 465. Yahoo has converte their email to use SSL ports as well.
Everything is configured properly according to both Yahoo and Wildblue and they are blaming Norton for my inability to send or receive email via the SSL ports. (My Windows firewall is OFF and I tried disabling NIS and email scanning but these actions do not resolve my problem.)
When I use standard ports (110 and 25) everything works fine, but they will be eliminating these servers and using SSL only soon.
I have also reinstalled Outlook and re-created my email accounts in Outlook (and hours of other such tasks), talked with Microsoft tech support and Norton tech support (incident 081119-003194) but no one has been able to advise me what settings I need to use so that I can receive/send email.
I get following error messages in Outlook: "Gmail receiving: reported error 0x800CCC0F. The connection to the server was interrupted...contact your ISP." When sending a test message I received the following error message: "Server was found but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct..." (It is.) Or: "Outlook could not connect to the incoming mail server POP3. The problem could be the server name or port, or your server may not support SSL..." (Wildblue insists that it does support SSL.)
They say the only thing between my computer and them is my firewall (using NIS2007). I disabled NIS and NAV which would remove the firewall barrier, but that doesn't work. I tried adding the port numbers to my firewall rules (per Norton tech support instructions) and that did not fix the problem either.
If I open the NIS2009 package and install it and it doesn't work, I won't be able to return it to get my money back. So I would like to know if NIS2009 resolves the problem before I install it. (I would prefer using NIS over F-Secure, which is Wildblue's default security software.)
Sorry for the novel, but I don't want to keep being told to do the same things I have already done 10+ times already.
I would be grateful for a clear answer.

katkeller, your problem sounds frustrating. As a NIS 2007 customer with a current subscription, you are entitled to a free update to the 2009 version by going to Norton Update Center. Using that you can try out the 2009 version to see if it solves your problem and, at the least, get an improved version of the product.
Have you tried starting your Outlook in Safe mode ?
Do you have any Anti-Spyware s/w like Spybot, Spysweeper or Anti-Spam s/w like Spam Assassin ?
Have you tried increasing the server time-out setting in Outlook?
Sorry for the repeated questions, as I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the thread. Starting Outlook in safe mode starts Outlook without add-ins, the preview pane, or toolbar customizations and could indicate a damaged profile or conflicting third-party application or add-in. If you haven't tried that, I suggest you to start your Outlook in Safe mode, create a new account in Safe mode and then try to send/receive emails.
- Click Start.
- Click Run.
- Type outlook.exe /safe.
- Click OK.
