My problem concerns ALL third part add-ins for Outlook 2010. I don't know how it happened, it was running great for a year. Now, when I activate the Norton add-in (plus others) the Norton tab appears in the email view, and Norton for Outlook will work until I close Outlook. When I open up Oulook again, whether I reboot or not, none of the add-ins that I activated, including Norton, are still active and working. The Norton tab in the email view is gone and I need to go to Options and re-activate COM add-ins.
I tried to delete all temp files including EXD files > reboot > ran Office 2010 repair > reboot......and the problem persists.
I have run full Norton scan and there are no viruses etc
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and Office Professional Plus 2010, version 14.0.7015.000 32 bit.
By the way, I posted this about a week ago and then it seemed like it spontaneously resolved, so I closed the thread. I was wrong, by the next day the problem had recurred.
Does anyone have an answer for me? Please list it in a step by step easy form for I am only a novice-intermediate user.
I have had NO problems for one year or longer using the same add-ins. there is one ffor Evernote and itunes and a few others. Iried activating just Norton and the same problem occurs. Thus, the 'other add-ins' are not the problem.
Did you restore your whole system, or just the Office files? You cannot just restore the Office program without restoring the corresponding registry entries.
PeterWeb: I only restored the Microsoft Office Folder. Unfortunately, the backup is a few months old and I didn't feel comfortable restoring the entire C drive. I am not even sure with Acronis True Image 2013 if I even have the registry backed up..? Is there a way to selectively restore those entries in the registry? And most importantly, what is the chance this will fix my issue?
If you took a full system image with Acronis, that would be the way to do a full restore to the previous date, and it would include the registry info from that date.
It would not be possible to just restore the registry info manually. You could end up making your whole system unusable if you try without knowing exactly what you were doing.
avjohnnie has posted here that the issue with the Norton anti-spam plugin for Outlook 2010 has been fixed in the lastest NIS 21.x (NIS 2014). I'm not sure if his instructions would solve your particular problem but it might be worth investigating.
I hope the restore of your MS Office folder hasn't created more problems than it fixed.

I followed your link and uninstalled the folders avjohnnie recommended. Iran the NIS 21 update successfiully.
Now, I do not get those 'ghost folders' being generated everytime I try and activate NIS, BUT NIS Outllok 2010 plug-in still will NOT stay activatedd.

Glad to hear you're making progress, but my main concern now is that the folder "restore" you mentioned in post # 6 has corrupted your entire MS Office 2010 installation.
Have you recently updated MS Office 2010 in the past few weeks, and if so, do you have a full Acronis disk image that pre-dates this Office update? Your current Outlook installation could be misbehaving if your registry entries are pointing to new SP2 folders and files that don't even exist on your hard drive anymore because you overwrote them with older files. A complete re-install of MS Office 2010 or a full system restore to a previous date as peterweb suggested might be necessary now.
Don't proceed with any software re-installs or system restores. Just let us know if you recently updated to MS Office 2010 so we have a better idea what you've been doing on your system.

I just found an article here that states that the version number of Office 2010 SP2 is greater or equal to 14.0.7015.1000, so you must have upgraded to SP2 since it's release on 23-Jul-2013. Any idea when you performed your last MS Office 2010 update?
