Hi
Are these the instructions you are following?
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-071513-0258-99&tabid=3
Disabling system restore is the most important part in this
If you still have this Issue, Update your Virus Definitons, make sure all boxes are Checked in the Manual Scanning section and do a Full System Scan in Safe Mode.
Having difficulty with "packed.generic.174". Norton Internet Security 2008 keeps blocking it, which is wonderful. However when I follow the online instructions to remove it, nothing happens. It cannot find it or does not recognize it as a threat.
On the security history the following files show up as associated files (each associated with a different blocking action...i.e. a different time):
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GNGN4B2L\scan270713[1].exe
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data\986780937.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data\979178297.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\C7SDO1K3\scan270712[1].exe
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\APGLG9KJ\scan27074[1].exe
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data\969609459.exe.
I have tried to unhide these folder to delete their contents but have not been able to see the folder. And I would likely not be able to identify what files were needed to operate and which could be safely eliminated.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
Best wishes,
Eutychus2
isn’t “packed.generic.174” one of those suspected problems but not confirmed?? You know the kind that may mimic an issue and is being evaluated to see if it is actually a problem?
