I'm glad to see the columnist, Lance Ulanoff, over at PC Magazine is developing parent tips for dealing with MySpace and other sites. It may not be a pure technology story but it's an important one for even the most technically savvy reader to read. And it ties nicely in with my"The Talk", five simple questions to kick start your and your child's understanding of online safety.
One highlight of Ulanoff's piece, titled "7 Rules for MySpace Parents," is how to to find out if your child has a social networking profile, other than just coming right out and asking them. (It doesn't always result in honest answers.) Another tip is recognize that just because your child is savvy about using technology doesn't mean they are wise about life in general. And in the online world, that might mean an inability to recognize why posting private information or sexy lingerie photos might be a stupid thing to do.
